Both parties are focused on any unusual patterns of weather this year as well as measures to control the caterpillar population. A state report shows that the thoroughbred industry lost 516 foals and 2,998 aborted fetuses last spring. Researchers plan to begin an extensive environmental monitoring system that would provide advanced warning, should a new epidemic occur.
