Guest guest
Barb & Group: I hope you'll tolerate the self-promotion, but I couldn't help but interject when I saw this message. The article you quoted mentioned a technique for killing molds that is on the horizon. I am in Wisconsin and am the local partner for a company that is doing just this thing (see blow) right now in much of the US and Canada. The article mentions " TechClean " -- our method employs a very high concentration of ozone, but is essentially the same. In my (admittedly biased) opinion, our method it better. Ozone comes from oxygen and reverts to oxygen all by itself. Our procedure takes four to six hours, with the same (or better) results, so the family doesn't have to check into a hotel -- it can be done while the kids are at school. It works on mold, mildew, bacteria, viruses, etc. (even bugs) in the same manner that the propylene glycol method works -- it oxydizes the molds, spore, toxins, etc., attacking them at a molecular level where there is no resistance. Ozone is effective as a germicide at 0.28 ppm -- we use a level between 5 and 10 ppm, so it is VERY effective at oxydizing organic compounds (germs, toxins, etc.). I do have test results that prove the effectiveness, as well as a collection of articles on related subjects. If anyone is interested, I would be glad to provide them. Anyway, I just wanted to set the record straight -- this " high tech treatment " is here right now. If it's not available in your area, then do what I did -- partner with Medallion and start doing it for other people, then you can do your own home as often as you want. I have one kid with asthma & allergies, and another family member with a toxic mold home, so this was my motivation. :-) It is very effective and won't disrupt the lives of the occupants. In many cases, the ozone shock treatment is all they need, but it can be done before and after traditional remediation (i.e. gutting the house) to make the remediation safer and prevent recontamination. It can also be repeated on a regular basis (annually) as a prophylactic measure, and is definitely recommended when you've had a leak or other water problem, to prevent mold from starting a foothold. TechClean, Coffey's company, has been getting excellent results with a fumigation process that uses slow-release organic peroxide in a propylene glycol base - essentially the same mixture used in stage " smoke. " The treatment destroys bacteria and fungi and their harmful products by oxidizing their cellular protein, and the premises can be reoccupied safely after 24 hours.
