Guest guest
What we did with out outside pool which has a fence around is put two locks on it. One which the kids can reach on the outside of the fence/gate about their chest level, the other we put 5 1/2 ft up on the inside of the pool which they can not get open. This has been great for keeping my aspie's (ages 8 and 10) out of it. This has been great because the kids want to earn enough stickers to be allowed pool time. I have them earn stickers for getting dressed, eating breakfast, washing their hands, putting dirty laundry by the washer, etc. So far so good. I hope this helps. Pool Safety!Aspergers Treatment Date: Saturday, June 5, 2010, 5:53 PM Okay, so we saved up all year and bought a great above ground pool. One that will give us years of fun and relief! The kids are so excited, and love to be in the water as much as we will allow! Okay, so, that said, we also know that kids will be kids, and for added safety added a pool fence around said pool. Our ASD kid doesn't get "fear" or "caution". I can't use scare tactics or threats that he won't get to go swimming, as it just doesn't work with him. Sigh.We are new to the diagnosis, have not rec'd any "outside" assistance with ABA, etc. and are reaching out to you more experienced caregivers to get some pointers to where he can have fun, and I don't worry all the time (ok, I know that's a stretch, LOL!)Thanks for your input!
