Guest guest
Hi Carolyn, Do you mean they are testing his IQ today? American Idol Hello, I was wondering if any of you watch American Idol and if you do did you see the very last contestant they had last night? I did not get his name but he said he was the son of a bass player who had overdosed with drugs when he was a child and later on he developed Torrettes Syndrome and Asperger's and had a very tough childhood due to the bullying and taunting but then he met a really nice woman who loved him and his life was changed. He had on a green t-shirt and spiked hair and was quite emotional throughout while he told his story, and when he began to sing his emotions came through his voice also and he was really great! Anyway he got promoted to the next level and will probably be on tonight as they sift through all who made it to this level. I hope he makes it to the next.Just now going down to my grandson's school in about a half an hour to have lunch with him, the one I have written about who's currently being evaluated for "the spectrum" at school, his mom and I are going. We asked him yesterday if he would have hot lunch with us, but he doesn't want to, they are having turkey gravy. Cute little guy, yesterday when he came over he drew me a picture of planet earth in the sky and a couple of other planets and colored in the sky all black. I thought it was pretty good and asked him to sign it on the back and told him to write the date, 2/9/11. He was so amazed I knew the number of the day, he couldn't believe it, guess I am going to have to show him how the calender works. The first part of the testing is to see if he is retarded, hmmm I don't think so!Carolyn OR ;o) No virus found in this incoming message.Checked by AVG - www.avg.com Version: 8.5.449 / Virus Database: 271.1.1/3434 - Release Date: 02/10/11 07:34:
Guest guest
My husband and I saw it last night! My son blinks his eyes a lot and I have always noticed it (increased in the last 2 years, prior to that I never saw it). Anyhow, I am home with him and home school him so I see him with his eyes all the time. When my husband said, "did you see what he did with his eyes?" I said, "yes, and Austin does that all the time. " My husband is starting to notice and believe more and more... about Aspergers and Torrettes. My cousin has Torrettes and now that he is an adult, teaches in China and graduated from college. I wish that would be the case for my son, but as of now, he most likely will not go to a University. Of course, that is for the future to hold.Hugs!!!From: Carolyn <charper777@...>Autism and Aspergers Treatment Sent: Thu, February 10, 2011 1:32:31 PMSubject: American Idol Hello, I was wondering if any of you watch American Idol and if you do did you see the very last contestant they had last night? Guest guest
My son has Aspergers and Tourettes and there is a big overlap in the two being comorbid conditions. It started with the blinking and blurting of things and making sounds when he was 4 years old. We went to allergists and tried meds and drops, but finally what worked was going GF/CF and supplements. Now if he uses glue with gluten and gets it on himself he gets very agitated and hyper adn the blinking starts right in, not occassional blinking but fast, repetitive predictable blinking. WE also notice it increases with anxiety but for he most part on teh diet and supplements we hardly ever see him blink anymore. Guest guest
What's the difference between Tourettes tics and the repetitive motions in autism? My daughter with Aspergers has a tic right now where she raises her eyebrows. I don't say anything about it, but I'm just waiting for some kid to ask about it. Her tics change peridoically. It was blinking years ago. It has also been stretching and snorting. Only briefly recently she flapped her hands, but that's the only time I;ve ever seen her do a typical self stim. Guest guest
To tell you the truth I don't know if it is an IQ test or just going over materials they think he should already know. I will have to ask.. I have always been a little nervous about IQ tests because with him especially he is not apt to do what you ask him to do, but it doesn't mean he doesn't know the answer or how to do it he just does not want to do it. I had the same problem with my son Marty years ago, they would tell him to do something like throw a ball, he refused, then when they weren't looking he would throw it over the fence and they couldn't find it. They wrote he could not throw a ball and yet he knew how to hide the ball and get them to stop their stupid demands..he did that with every test they gave him, just didn't like their tone of voice or something, it annoyed him. Guest guest
Yes I saw it, next week it is on three times, Tue. Wed and Thur. It is sure grueling going through the process of elimination, but yes I was glad to see that Durbin made it through, that guy can sure sing! Needs to calm down the emotion a bit at times, but he sure has a voice and passion...wow! They have some good talent this year. Should be interesting. Guest guest
As my 16 year old son told me last night when I informed him about the wonderful Asperger boy on American Idol...."You know mom, we can do whatever we want. My disability does not define me. Some people with autism can do whatever they set their mind to, so I'm not surprised." My son is competing in Odyssey of the Mind Competition in S. Guest guest
Hi All, I have a success story to share about kids with Aspergers and singing. We have a daughter with Aspergers and when she was in Elementary School, she chose to just stay in the background with the singing in the school musicals. However, she had been singing in her room since she was about 7 with natural vibrato. Once she started middle school, they had a Talent Show every year and she was determined to sing in it. At that time she loved the song Don't Tell Me by Madonna. As it turned out, the gentlemen and lady in charge of the Talent Show had worked at her elementary school on the musicals. When she got on stage for the rehearsals, the two in charge were amazed. You should have seen their jaws drop. They both said, "Where did that voice come from?" I told them she's finally coming out. She stole the show when she performed and the kids and adults in the audience all had their cell phones lit up like the old concerts with lighters. It was the most transforming time for her, one I'll never forget.
