Guest guest
We had DS's eval today. I kept him on his meds, mostly b/c I wasn't sure how many days he'd have to be off of them to have them out of his system and then trying to get him back on them and balanced seemed tiring to me at this point. The dr. is actually someone that I know, his DD was one of my students several years ago. He was very impressed with DS's intelligence and how well he communicates. He had us fill out the ADHD questionnaire using differing marks for " with meds " and " without meds " so he could see a picture of DS both ways. He did say that his preliminary dx would be that DS's aspergers is very mild and he did not think it would affect him in the classroom when Kinder rolls around in 1.5 years. He said that our biggest worry would probably be the ADHD rather than the Aspergers. He said that his recommendation at this point would be to have DS attend the PPCD this spring just for socialization and to have his therapies all in one place, but to look for a regular pre-school next year. He didn't think DS would be challenged enough academically in the 4 year old pre-K our school district offers. When they tested his academic readiness today, they were simply amazed that he knew the hexagon. " No kid ever names the hexagon! " They were very impressed that he could name every letter of the alphabet and all of his numbers 1-9, along with shapes and colors. Of course, he has learned all of this without any of my help. Another function of his AS. DH and I are both very encouraged with the doctor's remarks. It gives us hope. I really like our school district and the diagnostician is a wonderful lady. (Our DD is in special ed, so we know the whole special ed department.) I know that if something else comes up with DS, more concerns, need for more services, etc. that the diagnostician will listen to me and at least try to make sure we are happy with the services we are getting. karla
