Guest guest
Hi, I've been on the list for a long time but mostly lurk. However, I wanted to post a few brief comments about my experience with VSL#3. First of all, it was recommended to me by an ND. He said to take it for a week, but I've been taking it for several weeks. I'm doing a one month trial. The major difference between VSL#3 and all other probiotics that I've tried or read about is that it contains a *massive* amount of organisms. The packets contain 450 billion organisms. You'd have to take 225 capsule of BioKult to equal the number of organisms in *one* packet of VSL#3. In any event, my major complaint is bloating and I've been taking 1 pouch plus 2 capsules of VSL#3 daily. I do think it's had an effect on the bloating, albeit not as big an impact as I'd hoped. I'd looked at the archives to see what others' experiences are and I saw some say they make yogurt with it. So I made several batches of goat milk yogurt with it. First I tried raw goat milk but the yogurt was very runny. Then I boiled the raw milk for a bit and that made a firmer yogurt. However, I found that the taste was inconsistent and more oftent than not it left a very strange and unpleasant aftertaste, so I won't be using it to make yogurt again. Perhaps it works better with cow's milk, but I limit my cow's milk intake as I'm not sure I tolerate it well. I definitely think VSL#3 is worth trying just for the shear fact that it has way more organisms than any other probiotic product that I'm aware of. It is expensive though and I probably won't continue with it after the box I have is used up. FWIW. Suze Fisher
