All right Stacey! Congratulations. Now I guess you have to figure out how to

swallow your disgust with these people and manage to work with them for your

son's sake. I'm not even involved and I'm worked up about your situation!

And for what it's worth, the squeaky wheel ALWAYS gets the grease - but who

wants to spend their life being a squeaky wheel?? Why can't people just do

their jobs??

Well I called the district headquarters and asked them for a copy of their

procedural guidelines that they put out to the school about what type of

timelines are considered " reasonable. " I told them that the short story on

my son is that he was screened by a official of the district prior to school

starting and determined to need services and 4 months later has not received

ANY services nor do I have a date for his IEP other than " next semester. "

I told them I needed to know if the school was not following district policy

or if the district was not following federal law. The lady called the

school and low and behold they managed to reschedule his IEP with everyone

there this Friday. Okay, so the squeaky wheel finally found someone with

some oil.

Thanks for the feedback.

Hi Stacey:

Good for you! Give yourself an A+ for advocacy for your son. It

is much more effective to lean on the system gently as you did than

gallop in with both barrels firing by threatening due process.

Please let us know how the meeting goes, take care, aloha, kathy

We didn't have to go through any of this to get OHI on the IEP. It was a

meeting at the school, with me on the speaker phone. They had a letter from

's Doc, and that was it. Of course, it was the learning specialist who

wrote up the IEP-but there was no involvement of the psych department.

OK, it's definitely time for me to do some more research on this topic.

It's one that I've avoided since Autumn was in preschool and they only had 9

children in the class. They give her all the individual attention she

needs, and her missing school didn't really matter.

I can't afford a private school, not even taking her preschool money &

moving it over to a tuition payment. All of our private schools here that

are worth their weight in salt have been full for a year & we'd have to go

on a 2 year waiting list.

I've got to place that phone call to the director of nurses this week and

see what she recommends.

Thanks for all the advice!

Ray, mother to Tabitha (age 7), Autumn, age 5 (IgG def., asthma,

chronic sinusitis, and allergies), and Duncan (19 months)

Is this a private school?

From: LornaBerry@... ps. Another school district in my area said it was the special needs education that made them go into 5 million in debt. Hence they have ceased to offer it, all kids will be mainstreamed. Had nothing do do with the adults running the school district LOL

We re-read the IEP , the school has not put one action into place from last year. Remember when I kept asking for a behavior therapist, the school said they could handle his "pinching ". TEA Complaints processhttp://www.tea.state.tx.us/special.ed/medcom/compinfo.html

I realize this is for the state of Texas which is where I live but there is one for your state too. Do some digging. You need to file a compliant. It sounds like this school is breaking all kinds of laws. The school cannot deny services due to "it was the special needs education that made them go into 5 million in dept". They can't cease your child's IEP, they are required by law to offer it at the current campus, or find a campus that offers it or find somewhere else like private school and pay for it

I will just post my favorite website resource for when I am coming up on an IEP. It is a goldmine of good links, including my favorite "parent attachment" info. http://www.orgsites.com/md/asperger_syndrome_info/_pgg4.php3 It applies to all IEP related things, not just Asperger's. Jane Mama to 7 (ASD) and 4 (NT) -- IEP What are some good questions to be asking during an IEP meeting? Thanks! __________________________________________________
