Guest guest
My school district and IEE is telling us that our child does not have aspergers because he does not have a pragmatic language disorder. However, doctors who have known my child and has been his doctor for years say he is Aspergers. Any comments?
Guest guest
Schools can'not diagnosis AS doctors do that. AS is when kids have a restricted interest, so in the presence of peers they will talk about there hobbie regardless if that is what the group is talking about. Although they may be able to carry on a conversation with an adult that bridges the topics from one subject to another they can't manage well with peers. AS kids have social knowledge, they are good at remembering facts, they may point out how others are breaking rules, not being kind etc. But AS kids are not able to take an interest in others interest for the sake of socializing and fitting into the group. They don't joke around as a way to fit in. If your child is doing well in school and staying organized they may say that your child is getting an educataion and doing well. If your child does not have emotional issues that make school attendance an issue and he is calm in school, they may argue there is no impairment that affects education.
