Guest guest
Hello. My name is Pam and my DS has recently been Dx with asperger's, he is 8 years and in the third grade. He was Dx with ADHD when he was 3 and anxiety and depression when he was 6 and now the asperger's Dx... I have been doing as much research as I can the last few days and have learned alot...I have bought 2 books so far, the one by Tony Attwood and a workbook for DS. We haven't told him yet and we are still trying to come up the right words that he would understand...any recommendations? We have 2 other children...both girls...a 15 year old and a 4 year old. My oldest " hates " her brother and I don't know what to do...She has been thinking for the last couple of years that he was just a " bad boy " . We have been suspected something other than his ADHD and anxiety and depression but had no idea what it was. Afeter a sereies of events since September his psychologist finally recommended further testing. Any way I have since told our DD about of son's asperger's dx and asked her if she would be willing to read a siblings book on it (she loves to read) and she said no...I just don't know what to do...I want her to understand her brother... I want to also ask you all about SSI and medicaid...was it difficult to get? I should have checked into this a long time ago...We are financially tapped out with his medications and therapies...2 years ago we had to make the hard descision not to do OT because we just didn't have the money:( Have anyone get the SSI retroactive...what do you think his chances are to get it retroactive based on his original Dx's of ADHD,anxiety and depression? We have already started the IEP process at school...Our social worker recommended it because of his behavioral issues almost got him suspended at the begining of the school year. They know we were pursueing a Dx and will have a meeting with the school in Jan. Any recomendations on the process? I forgot to say that we live in Virginia... I got so much going thru my head right now that I must be spinning!!! I love my son very much and what to do everything we can to help him and his future!!!
