Townsend wrote about her concern as to whether

or not to discard some contaminated materials. Her

insurance company Industrial Hygienist said they can

be cleaned but a receptionist mentioned an article

that porous materials should be discarded. The current

information in most documents from government

agencies(both Canada and US) indicate that porous

materials that have been water damaged/soaked must be

dried and cleaned within 24-48 hours or else

discarded. Materials that have been in a contaminated

area but have not been water damaged and have no

apparent mould growth, can usually be cleaned. Mould

may have settled on these materials but it is not

likely to be any worse than if you went for a walk

outside in autumn when all the dead plant material is

being degraded by moulds. In either case the exposed

materials will have deposited mould which can be

cleaned. The significant concern is whether the

materials of concern have experience water damage.
