Guest guest
That is really hard. Sorry to hear it. Those people DONT know thats what you have to keep reminding yourself. They have no clue what it's like to walk 5 minutes in your shoes let alone a mile (they wouldn't last). My son had extreme meltdowns and tantrums when we would go out, to me it was a big sign that he was overloaded (LOTS of stimulation at the mall or big places). My mall trips are either done without him or in consideration of his sensitivity (limited time). My son has always run, not on purpose but just wanders or runs for fun and the next thing I know he's in the middle of a street or parking lot. It is nerve wracking. We don't do medication, so sorry can't help you there but just lots of therapy and diet change. From: tpalvado <tpalvado@...>Subject: ( ) Hyperactive? Date: Friday, August 21, 2009, 5:14 PM Are your Aspergers children really hyperactive? n is. He is always all over the place. He runs away from us. He always has a lot of energy. When I go outside with him, as soon as a close the door, he is right by the road. I hate keeping him in. We use when I call a baby leash on him when we go in big places like the mall. We always get looks from people. When we go in public, he always cries and screams when he doesn't get what he wants and we always get looks and whispers from people. It makes me mad because they don't know what we have to deal with. Do your kids have adhd? If so, how do you go about getting them on medication? And do our kids qualify for SSI? How do I find out? Guest guest
My son was more hyper as a youngster. He is 15 However, he has ADD very significantly. We do use medication. I would have him in therapy daily if I didn't use it and that just isn't possible. After he was tested and was dianosed with AS & ADHD (this was just in May by the way) they started him on meds. I can't begin to tell you what a difference this has made. Before meds, I couldn't keep him focused on one subject for more than 10-15mins. If I told him to go do something i.e. a chore..he would come back in about 15 mins. I would ask him, so how did it go? The usual answer would be " how did what go? "  I would then remind him what I had asked him to do. He would then go " oh, I forgot about that, I got distracted. "  Now he is better. I can always tell when he hasn't taken his med. He notices too the big diffenence and is much happier. I am all for going natural whenever possible, but there are times when it just isn't. Caleb is a wonderful kid and I thank God that he is doing as well as he is.  Just remember if you do the medications, it will take a while to find the right one. We started on Straterra which was absolutley no help. Now he is on Concerta and so far so good. Best Wishes!!!
