Ask Your Reps to Co-sign the Letter to NIH Requesting Additional Funds for Down Syndrome Research To all executive directors, board members, development directors and friends of national, state and local Down syndrome organizations: The Economic Stimulus legislation passed by Congress in February 2009 provided $10.4 billion over two years to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to fund scientific research priorities. Your immediate help is needed to ensure that Down syndrome research is among the priorities to be funded by NIH. Congresswoman Mc Rodgers (R-WA) is circulating to her colleagues in Congress a letter to NIH requesting additional funds for Down syndrome research. Please call, fax or email your Representatives in Congress and ask them to co-sign the letter to NIH requesting additional funds for Down syndrome research by contacting the office of Rep. Mc Rodgers not later than Friday, April 24. It is critical that a significant number of Members of Congress sign the letter because it will show NIH that there is strong political support for Down syndrome research. If you have an existing relationship, or met with Members of Congress or their staff during AIA's 2009 Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill, please contact them directly. If you do not have a relationship or contact, you can find the Members of Congress in your area, as well as their contact information clicking on the 'Take Action' link.If your Representative or staff person is non-committal about co-signing the letter, ask them to contact you directly when they make a decision.
