Update on dedicated aide throwing things at my son

So it turns out the aide had also held my son by the arms (not in an approved hold) and also grabbed him by the arm and pulled him more than once.  He threw things at him a total of 4 times.  I think possibly the worst is that I also found out that AFTER the aide threw things at my son and was witnessed doing so, he was still left with my son for at least 1 hour.  I can't quite figure that out.

My son has gone through periods of sheer terror, screaming, grunting, hiding in his closet.  He is terrified to return to school tomorrow, but we just don't have another option.  The school is giving another aide, but from the same aide agency, but they are going to vet the person first with the experts from downtown.  They are going to give more support and also some other extra accommodations.  We seriously want to sue the aide agency for punitive damages (and I guess actual since we've had to have extra bbsitting, extra psych appt. and another coming up, and will have to do extra therapy).  Has anybody ever done something like that?

The district will NOT fund a private school.  DC public schools have gotten into so much trouble with the federal gov't (that basically runs us) for not being able to serve so many of their sped kids that they will do anything not to fund.  We spoke w/ a lawyer and she thought we had a good case, but it's still basically a $20K gamble.  We did apply to a private Asperger's school and have our fingers crossed for a full ride scholarship that we applied for!

I'm just so tired of having everyone else screw up and then having to pick up the pieces and I wouldn't mind a little money from this stupid aide agency to make life a little easier.  They don't even seem to care about what their person did.  Sigh.

hi e.v.,

i am so sorry your son had to go through such a terrior. did you press charges against the aide? i can sort of relate to the not getting help with the school system. we live in alabama and public schools and the teachers do not want to help or even act like they are listening to you. we fight on a constant daily with them about my 11 yr old son ( AS, ADHD and OCD).

hope things works out for you and your son.
