Guest guest
Did you get a copy of the BA that was done on ds and were you part of that evaluation process? Do you know what assesment tool was used in making that determination (BASC or other). Also, what is your childs age and what accomodations from the school have they had thus far? The first thing I suggest is call the Doc who did the dx and have them write up a list of what school accomodations your ds needs at school. What you're experiencing is complete denial from the school. As long as they can deny there is a problem, they have no obligation to make any accomodations for your ds. I would also call the district office and get a copy of the written policies at your ds school, regarding Special Ed., and assessment, and anything else in there related to your situation. If they are uncoperative, put your request in writing and mail it to them. If you are denied those policies, contact the Dept. of Education to file a formal complaint. You're going to need something with some theeth in it, having an advocate is a great first step. I live in mass. Yes, you can fill a complaint, but you will need all the documentation regarding your complaint. I hired an advocate that is calling for a meeting. After all those problems I feel I need an EIP for myself... ( ) Re: IEP meeting coming up Regarding classifications. ..this is interesting to me. My son is classified as OHI, and was before his Aspergers diagnosis, back when it was only ADHD. I pursued an Autism classification and was told it was not necessary. I was just told today by another school district that happens to have a FABULOUS autism program, that when they told me OHI was "ok" because he would get the same services, they were not being truthful. With an Austism classification we would be eligible for more services, including respite care through the state. This is in DE, so I'm not sure if it changes by state. Anyone else have this experience?Kelli> >> > Hello:> >> > I've been reading all the posts on here and I'm so grateful we found this group!> >> > Our IEP meeting is coming up on Tuesday and we are so nervous. We've already been told he doesn't qualify for special services at the first IEP (Nov.2009). We didn't sign the IEP and the school never contacted us about it. We had to contact them in February to ask if they planned on meeting with us, again, to finalize the report. At>
