Guest guest
Hi All, my son who just turned 7 switched from Adderral 20 mgs to Vyvanse (longer acting) 40 mgs last week. Teachers were not seeing any improvements for the three weeks he was taking the Adderral and now I'll need to get their feedback on the new Vyvanse med. Has anyone else experienced their child having heightened emotions and meltdowns on this drug? At first I thought the Adderral was wearing off just at the time he was coming home from school but found out last week that the teachers had not seen any improvement at all either so maybe the stimulant is just not the right choice for him. It does not seem to calm him down which I believe is the outcome we would hope for with the stimulant- to have the opposite effect than it would have on a typical person? I don't know where the Dr will go next... I left her a message this evening after more volatile behavior from Blaise. Has anyone else had this happen? If so what med did the Dr try next? Could it be a sedative type med or an antidepressant? Teachers are saying he is very negative at school so maybe he is depressed- he's not a happy boy much at all I'm very sad to say...he can get excited about a new toy (his birthday was last week) and then wants another new toy, wants to spend all his b-day money right away and then is angry when he doesn't have any money left. He is never satisfied with what he has. There is just no reasoning with him at all- everything is a foot stamping violent outburst or sobbing cyring incident. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I am getting pretty depressed over the whole situation myself, I hardly want to come home from work knowing what is in store for me when I arrive. Thanks everyone. Patty and I have Sheridon 8 RTS and Blaise 7 Spitfire/ASD
