HIT WITH RASH

March 14, 2002 -- Twenty five students and staff at Fort Hamilton HS in

Brooklyn have become the latest victims of rashes breaking out in schools -

and the cause remains a mystery, authorities said yesterday.

City Health Department and Board of Education officials said students

exhibited " slight rashes, itching and swollen eyes " yesterday and Monday.

Health officials said the rashes - appearing as red spots on arms - are not

contagious and the school remains open.

None of the students was hospitalized, though some visited their doctors.

Many remained in school after seeing a Health Department epidemiologist.

The rash appears similar to an outbreak that occurred at PS 161 in

Ridgewood, Queens, last month.
