Guest guest
Suzanne, I also teach and I find the pain often hard to deal with at work. I have foot pain but I also have terrible pain in my hands. Do you find that your PA can interfere with your teaching? I have a hard time holding the chalk somedays and I drop it at least 3 times a week. When teh pain is really bad I can feel myself not being as nice or as patient as I normally am. A few years ago my impatience made a girl cry. I still feel terrible. I have to constantly move my fingers or they will cramp up and become terribly painful. A few months ago I found a not from a nice girl to a friend that made fun of me for my hand movements. (I had thought they were subtle) I don't want to be my students best friend but that made me feel like it is interfering more thatn I had thought if my students are distracted by may hands. I have historically had problems with my feet and I just recently figured out that I have arthritis in them. You are on the right track with sporty shoes. I have fornd Merrel to be wonderful for my feet, for winter they make " snow clogs " or sometimes they are called " after sport shoes " you can get them in black/other dark colors so it doesn't really look like an incredibly casual shoe. Another brand is Solomn and both of these make summer shoes, but I am unsure of color. As for your coloegues you may want to tell them that you have to wear sporty shoes for health reasons. Other shoes I have found helpful are Easy Spirit and other brands like that. Have a Nice Day!
