Guest guest
Hi ,The weight loss is slow before you get your first fill. Don't plan on losing a bunch, just plan on letting your band HEAL. AFTER HEALING takes place, then you will go in for a fill, you will feel restriction and the weight loss starts to happen, but not until you have a fill. A long time ago someone compared the band to a tire. Right now it doesn't have air in it so it doesn't work properly. After a fill (putting air in the tire) it starts to work. Also, a little side note, your stomach will more than likely growl all the time, it isn't a hunger thing. We have spent our entire lives thinking, "growling stomach, must feed it" , not true anymore. Mine growls because I put too much food in it and it is trying to process it, it growls when I drink something and it is going through the band. Work on getting that thought out of your head. There will be sooo many mind games coming up for you, dispel that one now :)Good luck and let us know how you are doing. When is your first fill?? Guest guest
We had a similar situation recently, and our attorney went in to the Probate court and petitioned to have the money put into an OBRA Special Needs Trust for our daughter. This way she still maintains eligibility for SSI - the stipulation is that any monies remaining in that account at time of her death will be used to repay the government for any benefits paid to her during her lifetime. Check with your attorney about this, they should be able to help. Laurie Any suggestions? We have just realized that a relative who died made our son a beneficiary of part of an annuity. This will jeopardise his SSI disbursements. Any suggestions? We have tried to have him deny any claim to his money- since he has not constructively received it- but the insurance company is reluctant to comply with this since it was not done right away. Any suggestions? Thanks ahead of time, Colombo
Guest guest
This should be taken as a cautionary tale for those who have relatives who care about our family members with special needs. In my case, when elderly aunts mentioned their desire to leave assets to my (disabled) brother, I told them to please call his attorney to discuss how to do so without imperiling his Social Security payments. The conversations were brief, and were worth every nickel I paid in attorney fees. Guest guest
You can to talk to either an elder law attorney or a special needs attorney who knows about OBRA special needs trusts. There are also three pooled trust programs, here in Illinois (Life's Plan Inc.,Illinois Disability Assoc. and Options for Living) that can set up and manage an OBRA self settled trust. Depending on how much money was left will determined which of these programs you can use. Life's Plan out of the Ray Graham Association can set up a trust for as low as $10,000, Illinois Disability Assoc and Options for Living start at setting up a trust for $75,000 or more. Trust companies can manage a D4A OBRA trust, as well. Here is a list of attorneys well versed in this area, see attachment. Guest guest
What are you trying to accomplish by taking supplements? controlling PSA?, controlling cancer? what??? You must first find out what you want to do before taking any supplements. Jim In a message dated 12/3/2009 10:25:24 P.M. Guest guest
Hi Ruth Your husbands TSH is still too high and should be around 1.0. His B12 is still low and should be right at the top of the reference range. If he is only taking 1000mgs sublingual B12, I would recommend increasing this to 2000 daily and see if that helps. The reference range for ferritin is enormous, usually, it is around 30 to 300 for men and 20 to 200 for women. He might benefit by taking 200mgs Ferrous Sulphate (with food) daily to build up his stored iron. Low folate goes along with low B12 - read about this here and learn what he can do to raise his folate count http://hcd2.bupa.co.uk/fact_sheets/html/anaemia_folate.html I would not take Selenium and Brazil Nuts, I would just take 200mcgs Selenium daily with food - too much can cause problems and toxicity. I recommend you get your husband to do the 24 hour salivary adrenal profile to see where his cortisol and DHEA lie at four specific times during the day. Go to our FILES section which you can access from the Home Page of this forum web site and scroll down until you see 'Discounts' and in that folder, you will see that TPA-UK members can get discounts on thyroid and adrenal testing through Genova Diagnostics. I would highly recommend you change your doctor - this doctor will cause your husband actual harm. I would first write a letter to his GP asking for a referral to an endocrinologist by writing out his list of symptoms and signs 9check these against those in our web site www.tpa-uk.org.uk under 'Hypothyroidism' Take his basal temperature before he gets out of bed in a morning for 5 consecutive days and list what these are in your letter. Normal temperature is 98.6 - if your husband's temp. is 97.8 (and it could be much less) this means his metabolism is not functioning as it should and could be because he is hypothyroid. Tell the GP that neither your husband or yourself are satisfied with his lack of diagnosis and that you now need a second opinion and would like him to refer you to a specialist in thyroid disease - preferably of your choice, and give him the name of the endocrinologist you would like to see. (I have sent you a list of the doctors our members have recommended in the past - privately) Last, ask for your letter to be placed into your husband's medical notes as evidence that you have made these requests and send a copy to the Head of Practice. Once he has been referred, I would definitely seek out another doctor who cares about his patients. Luv - Sheila my husband has had more blood tests and these are the most recent ones TSH 3.5 [ 0.3-5.0] folate 5.6ng/ml[2.6-17.3] ferritin 163ng/ml [ 23-540] Dr's didn't do T4 or T3 this time ...said we don't need them now last time it was T4 22 [ 9- 25] and T3 5.3[ 3.5- 6.5]..then his TSH was 4.1 ....on 100mcg thyroxine still he has been taking B12 supplements for three weeks and that has gone up from 229 to 460 ng/ml[220-700] thyroid peroxidase antibodies 135 ...over 100 = positive Dr said " its all fine now, nothing wrong...get on..be positive.. " My husband is feeling very bad...swollen sore throat, occassional hot sweats and racing pulse, loss of appetite, nausea, aches and pains, chest pain, insomnia, skin irritation...etc etc What else do you suggest? Oh also just started selenium and Brazil nuts! Any suggestions appreciated ruth No virus found in this incoming message. Guest guest
Hi Ruth, Consider supplementing zinc too as this is also vital to t4 to T3 conversion. TSh is still far too high, though going in the right direction. Remind me, has he seen an endo? Guest guest
My 6 1/2yro daughter with Aspergers, is trying to loose yet another tooth. The first 3went well, but the last 2, she is really having such a hard time with them. I bumped it last night when I brushed her teeth, then tonight she bit down on a pasta noodle, it layed straight out flat (ready to get pulled out). She cries, cries, will hold her mouth open, until spit is going everywhere(grrr unnecessary), won't eat anything, or drink. I totally understand that it does hurt, I try to give her Tylenol, an ice pack, try to pull it out (which has been done in the past), something, she just gets really upset. She told me tonight that she doesn't want to go to school, cause it will get knocked out in P.E.. All the reassurance in the world does not help her. I just cannot find the "magic" thing to make her feel better about loosing teeth.Any suggestions?
