Guest guest
Hi, I’m Beth, Mom to Colton 6, Hannah 4, who has DS, and Jenna 10 months. Hannah was diagnosed with AML subtype M6 at 10 months old on Feb 13, 2006. She did 8 months of intense chemo, all of which required hospitalization, with small breaks between as her ANC would increase to at least 250-300 or more. Once it would hit 1000 it was back in for more chemo. She was treated on COG A2971. My husband Jerry is in the Air Force and we were stationed at Vandenberg AFB, CA at the time so she was treated at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in CA. Last spring we moved back to Colorado Springs, CO and she now follows up with The Children’s Hospital Oncology Group here. (Recent name change so I’m not entirely sure if that is the correct name). In October we made it 3 years off treatment and are now at 6-month visits, YEAH! Still makes me nervous when she gets bugs that she can’t seem to kick for several weeks. Had a little scare in Aug/Sept to this effect but her blood work seems to still look good so we will take it. The oncologist assures us that he next to never sees AML relapse after 3 years, but I can’t tell you how many times we have heard phrases like that that she then beats the odds for, so I’ll feel better when we hit 5 years. But honestly, I remember at the time thinking that I would never stop thinking about Leukemia and as time rolls on it does in fact get much better, just seems to creep in when she’s not feeling well for lengths of time etc. Wishing you all well, it has been great to read up on people’s stories!
