I've heard that before, about the deduction. The problem is, you have to

itemize, and you have to have a certain amount in order to file. We've never

had enough. You also have to have an official diagnosis, which we don't

Hi all,

Received this from a friend of a friend today. Thought it could be of some

interest. Long form is not how we go. But some one of you may want to call

the IRS and see if this will work for your family. '

One other thing to keep in mind. If your son has a medical diagnosis of

celiac than you are entitled (I believe, you'd better check because this

might have changed) to a tax deduction based on the difference between the

cost of the special diet food and the cost of a similar, non-special item.

So for example, if a loaf of gluten-free bread is $3.89 and a regular

loaf is 1.89 then you get $2.00 in deduction. Of course you have to keep

receipts and you have to itemize on your return and it's probably more

of a headache than you need with a number of special needs children in

the house...but I thought you should know.

& Garry, parents of (9 ds), (8 ds/g-tube), JJ (6

ds/autism/celiac), (5 ds), and Esther (3 ds). All adopted.

If u have dealt with this diet before or are now, can u please give me some advice and insight on it? I am wanting to start it with my son. He keeps getting hive like spots on his body and we have been to the doc more than once. We believe its something he is eating that is causing them to keep coming back. Don't hurt, just look like an allergic rash of some sort.

I could use any advice or insights on the diet u have. Thanks so much!
