Guest guest
The article talks about how the American Psychiatric Association is proposing to change their " diagnostic bible " including the elimination of subdiagnosis in the autism spectrum. The proposed change does away with the autism, asperger's syndrome, and PDD labels and simplifies the diagnosis to autism spectrum disorder. http://news./s/ap/20100210/ap_on_he_me/us_med_mental_disorders " The draft manual, posted at http://www.DSM5.org, is up for public debate through April, and it's expected to be lively. " I'm waiting for my son to be officially diagnosed with Asperger's. We've been talking to the school about moving him from his behavior disorder class (only place they could put him for now) to an Asperger's class next year. They have a different class for Asperger's than the Autism class. Like one of the people quoted in the article, I can't believe that combining these two groups into one diagnosis and simply saying one is at one end of the severity and the other is at the other end of the severity is going to be productive.
