My son now thirteen has had one since he was about 3 also...I have used it in many instances...it was a Godsend in some cases.

We ordered a weighted blanket and a weighted lap pad for my son from Dream Catcher weighted blankets: http://www.weightedblanket.net/. I chose to order from them in part because they have a program where you can trade in an old weighted blanket for credit towards a new one when your child grows. They have guidelines on their website for the correct weight, but I think the rule of thumb is about 10% of the child's body weight. For my 3 year old who weighs about 32 pounds, we got a 3 lb. blanket. The other reason that I ordered from that particular place was that we could choose from a huge number of fabrics. A lot of people seem to make weighted blankets from flannel, and that sounded too hot for my toasty little guy. The quality of the blanket we got is very nice, but I will warn you that it took far longer than promised to arrive. (The store owner had a family situation going on at the time, so maybe their delivery is more promp

t under normal circumstances - I don't know.) We think that the blanket has been good for bedtime, and the lap pad is great for long car rides (might also be good for school too for an older child).
