Guest guest
It is not a weight limit it is you BMI ( Body mass Index). I was not a canidate since my BMI was over 31- I think that was the number that the dr quoted. However, since that was the " trials " specifications, and it has been reported that the FDA has approved one appliance, it may no longer be an issue. Guest guest
Hi Mazza TKR = total knee replacement PKR = partial knee replacement I don't really think there is an actual weight limits on resurfacing, I think you are just unfortunate that your femor is so deformed. I know it has been suggested before but you could still email your x-rays to De Smet or even MB just as another opinion - it wouldn't cost anything!!!! you take care now jane - in Wales > > I agree with Chris. Guest guest
Hello Mazza, Weight limits in resurfacing depend on the surgeon. I know of some in the USA who probably not havedone me because of my size (6'5 " , 270 lbs). My surgeon, though, (DeSmet in Belgium) has done a patient over 400 lbs!! I guess the best advice is to not take the first refusal as final. DeSmet, I know, will give a free analysis based on an x-ray and an email. Many other docs do the same. TKR is total knee replacement. PKR is (I think) partial knee replacement. Joe Alvord Eagle River, Alaska > > I agree with Chris. Guest guest
> i see lots of posts on here..but amazingly enough it takes over 24 > hours if at all to post..why is that? If an emails doesn't appear, was it really sent? Excuse me for being exestential. The reason it may take some time for posts to show up is because the 2 moderators -- me & Whims -- actually have lives outside of this list. We have these crazy things called " jobs " and " families " that tend to require time & attention. Additionally, there have been 2 situations that happened at the same time: 1) The max amount of posting was increased to 5. (I did not vote for this rule change!!!!) 2) We are getting A LOT (caps intended) of newbies. Remember that every new person on this list is automatically on moderation so with the increased activity/membership, it takes longer to go through the posts that are waiting in the queue. I'm spending a lot of time having to go back & check how many times anyone person has posted. Being that some people are sending upto 12 posts a day, I need to keep count of how many posts have gone through already. This behavior does not inspire me to change the moderation status so this list can become anyone's personal blog and therefore this takes more of my time. Does this answer your question? Guest guest
Heidi, The biggest thing that got to me in your message was " he rarely is happy " . Sounds very familiar to me! was not a happy camper for a long time. His peak behaviors occurred at age 9. He also slammed heads against walls and floors. The breaking stuff still occurs...sigh! Anyway, get him back to the doctor and try to document as much as you can. I would keep track of his day (24 hour) and mark what food he gets when, when he sleeps, what behavior occurs, what precipitated it, etc. Hopefully you will see some pattern develop. Another thing..puberty hit when he was nine years old. I can't imagine how the hormones played havoc with his moods. You are right, people and family around you won't understand. ph's needs are a bit more than the average child with DS. My mother in law tells everyone that would talk if I quit using sign language with him.....lol! Hang in there and get some professional help. I recently started another list for those who have children with a dual diagnosis (but not autism or asd b/c there is already a list for that subgroup). The other group is downsyn . Hugs Heidi Heidi, Sorry to say but I know what you are talking about. Was this behavior happening before the current meds? I ask because our son had horrible nastiness on clonidine until we got the doseage correct. He also became self-injurious and nasty on some other drugs. I know the trick with our son was to stay positive and reinforce over and over but that is very difficult with other kids involved and I'm sure they react to his behaviors. I don't have any great answers but definitely understand your frustration. Karyn
Guest guest
Hi, Heidi & welcome! I was also struck by the rarely happy observation. He seems very young to be so often unhappy. 's suggestion of observing and tracking behaviors is what I would also suggest - pay attention to everything that is happening, not just his responses. Also be prepared to go back to something that happens in the morning to help explain behavior that happens at lunch or even after - kids remember their feelings more than we adults sometimes realize. The other thing that nudged me from your post was the anger and that he seems to feel a need for control and is trying to assert control in some really unacceptable ways - is he getting enough opportunities to make some choices in his daily life? (not just at home - all environments matter) Sometimes with Jess, it wasn't even a matter of the choice itself as of her being allowed to express her opinion and have it validated - for example, telling a teacher that she didn't want to do something. Teachers who got into a control battle over her saying she didn't want to __ almost always had behavior issues while if a teacher acknowledged her feelings and validated that she could feel them the teacher almost always got no behavior and usually got what needed to be done done without problems. Somewhere between ages 9 - about 16 seem to be the hardest (for parents anyway ; )) no matter whether the child is typical for ds or even typical nda. Jess was her most disagreeable at 12 - 14 and seems to be mellowing down at 17 (of course, her brother is 13. . . ). I've heard several other parents say that some point in those ages was a terrible time in terms of behavior for their kids w/ds too. It does get better (our older two, now in their twenties, are much more agreeable than they used to be), but he does need to stop some of these things now since you surely don't want him still doing them when he's older and bigger. Guest guest
where do you live? My son also has DS and ADHD. He takes Dexadrine for the ADHD. He is 9 years old. I recommend looking into Wrap Around services for any child with challenging behaviors. We've been getting wrap around for about 2 years now and will be discharging them very soon. We are at a point where Nic's behaviors are now manageable. Wrap around is a service where a team of professionals come in, evaluate your child's behaviors, make a plan and come into your home(or wherever the behaviors seem to be happening) and teach you techniques and strategies to get them under control. we are in PA. The services are covered by his insurance under the mental health section. Guest guest
My son, , is also a righty (I'm pretty sure anyway) and born in September. His eyes were the same color (deep blue) when he was born and around 5 months, one stayed blue and the other turned mostly brown with a little blue. > Right handed born in September > > >> >> hi, i have a question, i've met 4 or 5 people with heterochromia, and >> the thing is, they've all been left handed and born in february like >> me. Guest guest
If anyone wants to peek, I created an album called 's Eyes and put a photo of him at 9 months - not sure if the photo is up yet - and his eyes look mostly the same now, 3 months later. The blue side has since lightened a bit more so in brighter light, I think the color contrast is more apparent now. > My son, , is also a righty (I'm pretty sure anyway) and born in > September. > > He just turned one last weekend and we are getting the referral to go see > an opthamologist.
