Jacque I don't think any one said that you can't trust anyone with a free website. From my point of view, it's a question of professionalism. Anyone who is trying to sell a product that they make needs to also market and sell the product...it's NOT a case of " build it and they will come " If you are selling on the web, a site that looks professional gives the casual visitor more confidence. and if all they know about you, or your products, is what is presented by your website, you want to convey the quality of your products in the quality of your site. this doesn't mean that people who have polished, professional websites all have wonderful products, or that those with amateur looking sites have shoddy products...far from it. but the website is what people see, and, unfortunately, are what they are going to judge you by. It may be a coincidence, but we lost money for our first three years we were in business. the fourth year was when I went for the domain name and started learning about what works and doesn't work, online. the FIFTH year I took the advice I've given a lot of folks online (look at my sigline for this message) and our sales multiplied geometrically. I've not changed. the website has. For information on making your website an effective sales tool see <http://www.naturesgift.com/sitewrite.htm> It works! it really really does. Guest guest
I have to get my 2 cents in on this issue, too. I read the original message and the author said they didn't like 1) free web sites and 2)poorly done website. I see alot of attention has been paid to free web sites. However, poorly done sites bother me more than free ones. If I can't find what I am looking for fairly quickly, I'm on to the next site. -- Marcelle Karustis mkarustis@... - email (973) 776-3900 x7867 - voicemail/fax ---- Marge <marge@...> wrote: > > At 09:36 AM 9/1/00 +0000, you wrote: > > I agree completely!!!!! Guest guest
Amen to that!!! Marcelle. I've been on some that tell me they have a lot to sell, but I don't see anything and the explanations are so poor I move on. Deby Re: Re: websites > > I have to get my 2 cents in on this issue, too. Guest guest
Hi Marge. > I don't think any one said that you can't trust anyone with a free website. I haven't followed the thread too closely, but I think it was implied by a couple of people; not you though. > From my point of view, it's a question of professionalism. Anyone who is > trying to sell a product that they make needs to also market and sell the > product...it's NOT a case of " build it and they will come " While I agree with you, I think there is a difference between a free site on a place like geocities-which is really meant for personal web sites-and a place like safeshopper that is designed for commercial web sites. > If you are selling on the web, a site that looks professional gives the > casual visitor more confidence. This is really the core of the problem. You can put up a fairly professional site on safeshopper in a short period of time without pop up advertising because they supply you with all the tools to do it, including a shopping cart. If you are not adept at HTML and cgi etc. you can spend a long time putting up a mediocre site on a paid server that will cost anywhere up to $100 per month and still have nothing. As I mentioned previously, my site is for existing customers. I don't have pictures of my products and very little description. At the moment this is a part time business for me and what I really like doing is selling at shows and the interaction with live people. This is not to say that I would turn down web business and my intent is to put up photo's except I never seem to get the time. Before putting up my web site, I did look at several that sell similar products, and many of them (the majority) looked the same or so similar they could all have been put up by the same person. I don't see that those sites look any better than mine except that they have photo's. On many free sites, you can have your own web address even if it is a redirect. If people use that address, they won't know that your site is free. What I do find wrong with free sites is that you are limited in what you can put on there and you are locked into templates that may not always work for you. For the novice, this usually is not a problem. I consider myself a novice, but there are things that I would like on my web site that I can't currently do if I follow the rules, or in some cases, just can't do because of the limitations. I am currently looking into getting a paid site, but until I have time to build the site, I am going to use the free site. At the rate my free time is going, that could be a year or more:-) I think people need to get their feet wet on a free site before graduating to a paid site, if for no other reason than to practice changing the look of their site until they know what they really want. I think it also encourages them to learn a little HTML so that they will have control later on a paid site, even if they were to pay someone to build it for them. I also believe that even with a free site, people should get their own web address, you can get one for as little as $15 per year now. Pat. Peace, Joy, Serenity House of Scents tm. Guest guest
I seen on the 'nightly news' where college kids bought the web name 'campaign 2000' and all they had on it was the name & address where they could be reached. They sold it at quite a hefty profit before the Presidential campaign got into full swing. The newscaster also told of someone that bought another name, I cannot think of it now, and asked too much for it. Whoever still owns that site for being greedy. Karyn ...also, once you've bought a domain name, it is your " property " and has value. At the moment it may be only worth pence (sorry, cents), but as names become scarcer the value of these will go up. One I bought on an impulse one year ago is now worth £2,500 ($5,000?). Once you've bought a name you can have it valued at low cost by a number of on-line services. Shelagh

Guest guest
MC, I posted a couple of websites that had to do with gluten. Not knowing which you were referring to I listed them both below: I recommend you go to http://www.gluten.net/diet.asp and read the information about what else to be careful about as well as the complete list of OK grains. Of course you will have to compare the OK grain list to the appropriate BTD avoid list. Here is a section from a web page on " ANTI AGING and the Adrenal gland " that I thought the group might find interesting. I found the article on the following web site: http://jeff.benton.net/antiaging_adrenal_gland.htm The section I quoted was Gluten Grain Intolerance and Stress I believe I have confirmed that I have trouble with some grains above and beyond what type Os are supposed to avoid. After being grain free for 12 days I tried eating two organic Ezekiel sprouted grain tortillas a couple of nights ago. I woke up the next morning with sinus congestion and thick mucus. It took 36 hours for my sinuses to clear. I will continue to test various grains with different meals to definitely confirm my conclusion and determine exactly what grains cause the problem. I have been struggling with sinus problems for about 10 years. This is a HUGE discovery for me. My life will definitely change for the better as a result of this. Don > Don, > > I believe it was you that sent out that site on grain intolerance, could you send it out again. I thought that I saved it, but now I can not find it. Thanks so much. > > MC > >

Guest guest
Hi Kat, It was fun chatting with you at the Hearing Exchange last night. I can think of a few specific sites that would be great to add to the webpages if they aren't there already. http://www.hearingexchange.com http://www.listen-up.org http://www./group. http://www.tdi-online.org/fs_relayservices.html http://search.about.com/fullsearch.htm?terms=hearing%20loss http://www.healthyhearing.com/healthyhearing/newroot/default.asp Along with these - the three main implant companies should be listed: http://www.bionicear.com http://www.cochlear.com http://www.med-el.com along with http;//www.shhh.org http://www.cici.org I'm sure others can help you add to this list. Send me the link to the website and I'll add it to the CI Hear links too. Alice

Guest guest
Hi ita, There's a listing of some good website links at our group's main page: /links/ Also, I tried a couple times to email you the survey answers but ... no luck. Aloha, Georgina I get: The recipient you are sending emails to has activated the filtering software and that software has detected either wording, hyperlinks, etc., that was determined to be spam. Your email message was delivered to the recipients spam in-box and they can retrieve it from there if they choose. You can send a plain text email to the recipient and ask that they add your email address to their exclusion list within the filtering software and this will then allow your emails to bypass that filtering. This will be the decision of the recipient as we do not reject emails or automatically turn on the filtering software - our customer has to make that choice. If you have any other questions or concerns - please email abuse@.... Thank you! ita wrote: > Are there any websites that you could share with me that you feel are > good.
