Absolutely! Medical practioners must become better aware to inform parents of

all potential side-affects to avert tragic outcome! Stimulant and type

medications can be very helpful for children in many situations, for instance,

assisting with attention; which is why these medications are often prescribed

for ADHD. HOWEVER, in some children, there is an increased risk for sudden

death. ALL CHILDREN need to be screened for potential heart defect and

undiagnosed arrythmeias! These may not be located on an EKG, so an ultrasound of

the structure of the heart must also be part of the exam. Children who

participate in strenuous sporting activities should also be screened for

structural heart defects prior to commencing an activity. - VM
