America is dependent on expensive, polluting fossil

fuels that threaten our environment, our health, and

our security. A transition to clean, renewable sources

of energy will not only enhance our energy independence;

the environmental benefits of harnessing the power

of renewable fuels will improve our public health and

the lasting legacy we leave to the next generation.

-------YOU MAY EDIT THE LETTER BELOW---------

I am deeply concerned that the Senate will fall short

in addressing the energy needs of America in a responsible

and realistic manner.

Any energy bill that passes the Senate should take

the opportunity to bring pollution down and enhance

our national security by increasing our production

of renewable energy. I feel it is crucially important

that our policy be forward-looking, in the best interests

of the health of all Americans and supportive of renewable

sources such as wind, solar, geothermal, and biomass.

Based on a report by the Union of Concerned Scientists,

increasing our share of renewable production to 20%

by 2020 is both feasible and a crucial element of reducing

power plant pollution and dependence on foreign sources.

Therefore, I ask that you support a renewable portfolio

standard (RPS) of 20% by 2020.

Continued over-dependence on current energy strategies

is a dangerous mistake. Renewable energy sources are

America's best bet to secure a reliable, constant source

of locally-generated power. Requiring power companies

to build our renewable capacity is a win for the environment

and national security. Please support an RPS at 20%

by 2020.
