Hello:

I have just joined your group. For the last few weeks I have read through many of the archived messages and I have learned a lot! I am 36 and I have had mild P for 25 or so years and the cursed PA for 4-5 years. With the PA I have gotten by with various NSAIDs interspersed with times when I could cut back to just advil. I've always been able to hike, bike and even jog a bit with some pain (knee, hips, elbow, sacroiliacs) but nothing intolerable-until this summer. Life has suddenly changed as the PA has assaulted the tendons of my feet (heels, sides, achiles) and my ankles. Now, just walking is often extremely painful. And there are times when my whole body seems to ache. Celebrex takes the edge off but thats about it. Anyways, I have a question. My rheumatologist yesterday recommended going on Azulfidine (sulfasalazine). He said it works well for many people who even stay on it for years. But then I got home and read the pamphlet and the potential side effects and....But, if it really works I would be willing to give it a shot. So,

1. has anybody had success with this drug? If so, how much and for how long?

2. any comments on negative experiences would also help me decide if I should take the plunge

Thanks,

Shields
