Guest guest
Hi All, My 3yr old son was diagnosed with Aspergers in January. I have noticed that things seem to be getting worse for him...he hates having clothes on, and complains that his 100% cotton sheet hurts his skin. I try to make him as comfortable as possible, but have a hard time doing so. He has also started to complain about loud noises like the tv or stereo hurting him as well...is this going to get worse? Is there any advice someone can offer as to how to make him more comfortable? I make sure his clothes are soft...nothing but elastic waste bands, but when we are home, he takes everything off. Hopefully we can help you along the way. My son is now 14 and things have gotten better but it takes time and SOOOO much patience. But the hardest part is seeing them struggle or hurt. So every time I am at my wits end I tell myself it is nothing compared to what my son must be going through. That is just one of my coping strategies. ne> From: jacki <jacki842000@...>> Subject: ( ) new to asper group> > Date: Monday, February 28, 2011, 7:36 PM> > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > hi everyone > > i didnt see my post from before. thought i would post> again.> > my son is 9 yrs old the school diagnosed him with asper.> > i sure need this group to help my son and me do better> with> > issues. he twitches head, fingers , flaps arms, stares> off,> > behavior issues at home not at school with not getting> way.> > is doing iep at school helping him alittle more. motor> skills> > are very delayed. i hope you all can send me some support > > i will try to help you too. just nice to have other> parents> > going through the same will help me so much i cry alot. > > wish i could help my son more. jacki > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
my son was the same way at 3, you can get organic bambo fiber sheets at target and they are really soft and feel different, almost like skin. buy shirts, underware, elastic pants without tags. i buy him diabetic socks because he can not stand normal socks with the seam and the elastic. all this has helped alot. when he sleeps at night, my son likes alot of weight on him, so during the winter, i crack his window open and pile on quilts that are heavy. he loves it and sleeps through the night. their hearing is very sensitive. my son wears headphones that cover his whole ear, not the ipod kind, and i cut the cord off. he wears them alot to help with the noise level and it really helps. my son takes it all off too, even at 12! he doesnt care. but i limit him to his room with the door shut and if he comes out, he has to at least but on cotton flannel pj bottoms or shorts of some kind, after all, he has a 10 year old sister and her friends are always around. Guest guest
Darlene, I'm not sure if there is a "peak" in this disorder or what. I just know from my own experience with my son that the "peak" was shortly after he started 7th grade and hit puberty. I HOPE that when he was suicidal for a short period at the begining of this school year that that is the worse it will ever be for him or us. He has gradually gotten better since about the begining of Dec. and progressing from there. It is and has been very slow going but things are finally starting to improve more and more. You will probably see some new things pop up as other ones will fade out. He might hate something one day and then all of a sudden think it's ok. My son has certainly come a LONG way over the years. Things do get better so don't lose hope. Looking back there are a lot of things I would have done differently when my son started middle school. I definitely would have looked for a smaller school setting with smaller classrooms and a school that actually knew what the hell they were doing. Our son's school finally hired an outside agency in January to come in and train the staff and work with the IEP teams. They have been a blessing to say the least because otherwise we would be in court right now. Make sure the school your son goes to truely has knowledge about Aspergers and that you document, document, document everything. That is the best advice I can give you. It's an adventure that's for sure, so put your seatbelt on and prepare yourself for the ride! What else can you do, right? :-) ne> From: jacki <jacki842000@...>> Subject: ( ) new to asper group> > Date: Monday, February 28, 2011, 7:36 PM> > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > hi everyone > > i didnt see my post from before. thought i would post> again.> > my son is 9 yrs old the school diagnosed him with asper.> > i sure need this group to help my son and me do better> with> > issues. he twitches head, fingers , flaps arms, stares> off,> > behavior issues at home not at school with not getting> way.> > is doing iep at school helping him alittle more. motor> skills> > are very delayed. i hope you all can send me some support > > i will try to help you too. just nice to have other> parents> > going through the same will help me so much i cry alot. > > wish i could help my son more. jacki > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
My son too loves to chew on plastic things. I asked him on the way to the dr on Tuesday if he still chews on his things at school and he said yes. I asked him what he is chewing on now and he told me "it depends on the texture". So typical Aspergers! LOL!ne> From: jacki <jacki842000@...>> Subject: ( ) new to asper group> > Date: Monday, February 28, 2011, 7:36 PM> > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > hi everyone > > i didnt see my post from before. thought i would post> again.> > my son is 9 yrs old the school diagnosed him with asper.> > i sure need this group to help my son and me do better> with> > issues. he twitches head, fingers , flaps arms, stares> off,> > behavior issues at home not at school with not getting> way.> > is doing iep at school helping him alittle more. motor> skills> > are very delayed. i hope you all can send me some support > > i will try to help you too. just nice to have other> parents> > going through the same will help me so much i cry alot. > > wish i could help my son more. jacki > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
