Guest guest
Our dd is completing 6rh grade in public school. I was extremely worried about her going so I got an appointment with the principle, couselor to be, and a resource teacher. This appointment was set up towards end of summer, and with me I took my dd, info on her diagnosis, a list of questions and talking points. I felt like the more I was prepared, the more they would take me serious and I no time would be wasted. What I walked away with was a sense that we were all on the same page,,,info that the school had in certain programs, and a class that specializes in teaching social skills, and a better understanding on how there were "teams",,,in our school there is around 300 students per grade level, with three grades. Each grade level has 3 teams, and each team has specific teachers that only teach in that team. They all meet once a day. Another thing that I learned is they implemented a new program called "check and connect" Our dd was assigned to a teacher who would find her somewhere throughout her day and check her assignment book, help her organize things, make sure her work was getting done,,made sure she was comfortable in school getting from one class to the next etc... This, I believed made all the difference in the world. Lynne BanksSD Rep. www.americanadoptioncongress.org [sPAM] ( ) Middle school successes? Hi,I'd like to know what type of schools and assistance worked well for your kids in middle school. I have an AS son who will be in 6th grade next year. I'm very nervous about putting him in our public middle school with 1100 kids even though our district has done really well with supporting him in elementary school. I'm more interested in hearing about non-online schools since I know I can always do a virtual school if absolutely necessary. But my son has likes school now and learns much better from teachers than his dad and I. So I'd like to keep him in school and am starting to look at local private schools. But I don't really know what to look for. Also has anyone asked to tour a public middle school - can I just ask someone to give me a tour?
