GSU fights mold problems

By ANGELA LEE, Reporter for the Statesboro (Ga.) Herald July 12, 2002

Officials at Statesboro's Georgia Southern University are cleaning up a mold

problem detected this week in four campus buildings.

Officials at Statesboro's Georgia Southern University are cleaning up

a mold problem detected this week in four campus buildings.

As soon as environmental experts confirmed the problem existed, staff

people " began to clean up in a quick and timely fashion, " university

spokesman Sullivan said Friday afternoon. Efforts to find the source

of the mold are continuing.

Sullivan said buildings affected include the Center, the

health services facility, Hall and several temporary buildings. He

said university employees who occupy some of the facilities were moved to

other buildings while workers cleaned up the problem.

An environmental consultant is expected on-campus Monday to evaluate

the situation, he continued.

He stressed that university officials do not consider the mold problem

a major one at this time.

" Controlling mold is an ongoing maintenance issue " Georgia Southern's

staff must deal with because many of the school's buildings are old

structures, Sullivan said.
