Guest guest
Rep. Harriet Stanley, I want to add a few additional comments to what I e-mailed you yesterday in regards to my Toxic Mold Legislation, S2353. If anybody had bothered to read my Bill, you would know that I just don't look or discuss Stachybotrys Mold. From your comment in your letter, you give the impression that my Bill only deals with Stachybotrys. If you had bothered to read any of the materials I presented to you at the hearing, you would have seen dozens of Government studies that have already been done on all levels of Toxic Molds. Some of these were from the US Government. If you had bothered to listen to me when I spoke you would know that I modified my Legislation from its original submission and that I modified it again after the hearing. I heard your comments to the media after the hearing and made modifications that you had suggested to the media. I sent them to you and your staff. Did you not read them? Perhaps you watched the Channel 7 news story by Stassou last night about all of the employees getting sick at the Suffolk Court House. If you guessed Toxic Mold is making them sick you would probably be right. Instead of helping these sick citizens, the State seems to have taken their lead from you and the Legislature, IGNORE THE PROBLEM! Studies are fine but at some point you must actually decide to take action instead of ignoring or hiding from the health dangers of Toxic Mold. I'm sorry that you have an allergy to mold. Luckily, you can leave Beacon Hill to get away from it or you can quit. Most of us don't have that luxury. We live with it in our homes. Some of our children have it in their schools. It is in state Senior housing as well. The issues and illnesses of Toxic Mold are an epidemic across Massachusetts. Anybody that reads a newspaper or watches TV would already know that. You, and the Legislature, have an important decision to make. Will you protect We the Citizens from these Toxic Molds or continue to protect the Special Interests and corrupt government employees and inspectors that have allowed this epidemic to attack us? As I told you in my opening statement before your committee on June 10, Government has an obligation under our Constitution to protect the citizens. You have failed to protect us from you! Guest guest
I'm back!!!! Ken August 16, 2002 Diane Levick Hartford Courant Hartford, Ct. Dear Diane, As I started to mention in my phone conversation with you this afternoon, Toxic Mold is not only an expensive issue but can also be deadly to those that become infected by it. Sadly, most States, to include Connecticut, have decided to protect the profits of businesses, such as insurance companies and real estate, rather than the citizens. What your article missed were a few important business facts about the issues of Toxic Mold. Not all molds are bad or unhealthy unless you are allergic to them. There are four bad Toxic Molds, the worst being Stachybotrys. It is a cousin of Anthrax. Our own Federal Government considers it a weapon of Biological Warfare. It is this Toxic Mold that has caused most of the lawsuits, illnesses and insurance claims. Of most of the Nationwide cases involving Toxic Mold, about ten percent are due to acts of God or nature, busted water pipes or some other accident. The other 90 percent are due to substandard construction. Most of this construction is illegal because it violates most local, State and Federal building, fire, health and safety codes. Sadly for the homeowners effected by Toxic Mold from this type of illegal construction, there is no protection. While you can sue a builder for their bad construction, most file Bankruptcy when they lose in court and never pay a thing to the victims. The same is true of Real Estate companies that help builders sell these ticking time bombs. The people that have, usually, knowingly allowed this illegal construction are the local town and city building inspectors and the banks own inspectors. In many cases they are one in the same. Most communities or States, like Connecticut, refuse to help any homeowner that finds that their home is illegal, unsafe and unhealthy due to corrupt builders and government inspectors. How many times has the Courant reported on a family that has died due to a fire caused by faulty wiring or a faulty fireplace? This is usually the catch phrase to mean "illegal" construction. How many insurance claims were paid when the cause of death should have been labeled as corruption by builders and government inspectors? Of course that type of story doesn't help the building, insurance or real estate industry. Several months ago I asked Senator Joe Lieberman, and others, to file my attached Toxic Mold Legislation for Connecticut. I also asked him to file a similar bill at the Federal level. He did NOTHING! The Connecticut Legislature had hearings on the issue of Toxic Mold in schools across Connecticut. They waited until CBS had done their news story before voting down the Mold bill before them. Such bravery. For the last decade I have been one of the leaders trying to get the issue of corruption by builders, realtors and government building inspectors resolved at the State and Federal level. I have also tried to get insurance companies to provide coverage. Sadly for Americans, these groups provide huge Political contributions to the local, State and Federal officials that are suppose to regulate them. One question your article did not mention is a simple one. Will the insurance companies that no longer will provide coverage from Toxic Mold be giving discounts to the public? It would seem perhaps dishonest to charge the same fee for less coverage. For your review, I have attached a copy of my Toxic Mold Legislation for Connecticut. It deals with issues like safety and accountability. The citizens lose though because the State will claim Sovereign Immunity protection for the criminal and illegal acts of their inspectors that have allowed or provided the places for Toxic Mold to exist. I am also enclosing a photo of Stachybotrys Toxic Mold. It is not from a Medical or Scientific text book or Government study. It is from my home that Government inspectors knowingly allowed to be built illegally. My family suffers every day from the Medical effects caused by this Toxic Mold. It has destroyed our bodies immune system. Guest guest
Have you reported that many of the Hartford City employees that are sick from Toxic Mold at work are in buildings owned or previously owned by the likes of Aetna or Travelers insurance companies? The City and State all know about it but remain silent. Wouldn't that make a good story, insurance cuts mold coverage for homeowners while their buildings make employees sick from Toxic Mold? Think of all of the workman's comp that is being paid to protect these insurance companies rather than the sick employees. If you want to do a full story on what Toxic Mold does to workers, children and families, I can meet with you Tuesday or Thursday of next week. What time is good for you? I will meet in your office.
