Mold Shows Up In More Local Apartments

Mold has become an issue at another large local apartment complex.

More than 400 apartments at the Woodbridge By The Lake apartments in West

Chester Township may be affected by mold, WLWT Eyewitness News 5's Mark

Kahler reported.

Officials with the County Health Department said that as many as

1,000 families may have been exposed to the mold, some of which may be

toxic.

Plumbing problems may be the cause of the mold, WLWT reported.

The health department is working with township zoning officials to assess

the extent of the damage, Kahler reported.

The company has promised to correct the problems and fix whatever is causing

the mold to form, according to Pat Burg of the health department.

" Obviously we can't come into an apartment complex and solve problems in 400

units at one time if that what it happens to be, " Burg said. " They did

indicate that they had a schedule and they will work on their schedule and

take care of the problems. "

The current owner of the complex purchased it in March.

So far, no evictions or evacuations have been ordered.

People living in the complex who think they may be suffering ill effects of

the mold are encouraged to call a doctor or contact the health department at

(513) 863-1770.

The discovery of mold is just the latest in a series of problems at

Woodbridge.

On April 30, fire damaged several apartments and displaced six people.

Two days before Christmas 1999, fire destroyed one of the complex's eight

buildings and left many people without homes for the holidays. About 65

apartments were destroyed, and 55 of them were occupied.

In the late 1980s, a tornado ripped the roofs off seven of the eight

buildings.
