Is this the 5% or the 2% they don't seem to list it?

I just received an order of Lugol's just a few days ago. I obtain small bottles from a place called Home Science Tools. They will ship small orders. I found out a few months ago when I tried to order some for myself, a friend, my mom and one of my cousins that the FDA had changed the regulations and HST would not sell me 10 bottles at a time!

I did however order and receive 4 bottles this time at $3.50/bottle, plus shipping. They also have some neat products for science projects, etc. I ordered a wonderful book for my grandson on mechanics for Christmas.

Their website: www.homesciencetools.com

I noticed the last time I bought Lugol's from .com it was not the same as

the recipe in Dr. 's books, or the old books at least. Plus it looked

diluted.

Has anyone tried getting Lugol's from Fludan? I think that's my next stop. It is

so much less expensive there, too.

Does anyone know why (.com) changed from potassium iodide to (I think)

sodium iodide? I don't have the bottle here anymore, but I think it was changed

to sodium iodide. And, as I said, it looked and acted diluted, compared to the

old orders I used to get.

the only thing is they've had to dilute it to half strength. (FDA or something!)

Ummmm, they didn't cut the price in half, did they? Also I used to buy 2 oz

bottles, now it is 1 oz. if I recall the last order.

RIP-OFF! I call 'em like I see 'em. Whatever the excuse is, I'm not paying that.

Preferably I'd like to get the raw chemicals to make a big lifetime supply

myself. But I just haven't gone through the trouble. In the long run, it would

be worth it, though.

Unfortunately the lugol can not be sold in larger packaging than 1 oz... and not

stronger than 2%

As stated on the website...

http://store.com/modified-lugols-iodine-1oz.html

We had to change the size and concentration of our Sodium Lugol's . This is due

to government regulations (Department of Justice, Bureau of Narcotic

Enforcement) that are aimed at making it impossible to create recreational drugs

out of products that contain granular Iodine, such as our Sodium Lugol's. Due to

regulations, this Lugol's solution was modified from 4% to 2% granular Iodine.

Please double dose as needed.

This is why I hate big government. No drug maker is going to be buying Lugol's

from a website selling Dr. products. I'd find that highly unlikely,

anyway. It's a useless regulation, IMO. But then, aren't most of them?

Nevertheless, it would appear they are wrong about the 1 ounce restriction. I

just bought a 2 oz bottle of Lugol's from Swanson. 4% KI and 2% diatomic iodine.

I'll judge the strength by the color. I think this is the same strength as the

good old Lugol's we used to buy. But maybe it's half strength. Oh well.

This still doesn't explain .com's change from Potassium Iodide to Sodium

Iodide. Or does it?
