Guest guest
I didn't see response to my previous posting, so may I post again? (Wonder why my postings always get cut off--I know I'm long winded, but this is a complicated situation--is there a way to tell when you're out of room? So, our condo was flooded from broken pipe--stachybotrus, penicillium, and aspergillus resulted. It has been since 1/30. We have now been told ducts are wrapped in asbestos. Ducts can't be tested or cleaned. Insurance company wants to turn ON the HVAC and do ambient before & after testing of the air. I contend that this will contaminate the upstairs. Mold testing expert agrees that this is a distinct possibility. Testing could possibly cost MORE than to take out and replace the ducts. The HVAC is so dirty that the inspector wanted to use pictures in seminars. I don't want to live in this house without the ducts being remediated. Can't imagine the ducts aren't contaminated after the heater being turned on by flood remed people during the critical time 1 week after the water loss. Can anyone tell me why the insurance company is being so intractable in this situation? After I told them, it will cost possibly less, they could contaminate the upstairs, it will take another 2 weeks to get testing back, they have now set us back another 1 1/2 weeks while we debate, they then say they will clean the upstairs if the testing comes back positive. Occurs to me they are worried about asbestos abatement. (This will be done by asbestos abatement/mold abatement experts.)Thanks for any help you can give.
