PSYCHIATRIC CRIME

A woman is slowly and painfully poisoned over a period of

months with drugs that replicate symptoms of a rare kind of tumor-sounds like

the plot of a murder mystery movie, right?

No, this is a real life crime. The convicted murderer

is a New Zealand psychiatrist whose victim was his own wife.

Dr. Colin Bouwer, former head of psychological

medicine at Otago University, committed a crime so horrific that when a

recent court of appeals heard the details of it again, they decided to extend

the prison sentence.

FORCED PSYCHOSURGERY

Under the newly-sanitized name of " neurosurgery " for mental

disorders, or NMD, psychosurgery advocates in Scotland have proposed

lobotomies without patient consent. However, brain specialists, and yes, even

psychiatrists, have opposed this.
