Guest guest
Dear List Members, The excerpts of posts you are quoting in your replies must be edited to convey only the information necessary. Usually, if a post is recent, this will be no more than a few lines. Whole " threads " should not be quoted. The readers can look for the earlier posts in the thread in their or the archives if necessary. The problem with the long quotes is twofold. 1) The extra text makes the digest form of the list extremely cumbersome and unwieldy to read, and sometimes to receive. (It can get too long to be received by the server). 2) Some members pay for Internet service by the hour. The time they have to wade through the extra text is costly to them. Please edit your replies judiciously. Thank you for your cooperation, Robin G. One of the Moderators
Guest guest
My apologies to the list for asking listers to edit their postlings when I did this from an establised thread. That particular thread was having several issues of people replying to emails without editing. There are several ways to receive the emails from this list. One is a regular email, another is to view them on the website, and the other is digest form. I prefer the digest form. With digest any emails that were submitted over the previous 24 hours or so are combined into one email. Many time when you click on 'reply' and do not edit out the extra verbage, ALL of that extra verbage as well as the ad stuff at the bottom is emailed also. If someone else replies to your unedited reply, all of your verbage and the new one as well as the original is posted on that one reply. It can often take quite some time and aggravation to scroll down through all of that extra repeated stuff. Some of you have email servers that automatically remove the original post when you reply, that in itself can be confusing because when some of us read your post, we have no clue what you are referring to. In that case it would be nice if you would copy and paste the section you are making remarks to. You can simply edit by either highlighting and deleting the extra after you click reply, or you can highlight, copy and paste and only print just that and then type out your reply. I know some of you do not understand and I am sorry about that. It is a common courtesy for listers to edit when replying. Many list require listers to use this type of etiquette. It would help out digest users as well as potential members if this etiquette were followed. I am sorry if any of you took offense at my 'snapping.' I really take this list seriously and want to learn more about Dr and what pepole have learned and practice from her. I am also one of those people who has such little free time in life that I find it very stressful and time consuming to scroll through sometimes 20 inches of screen words.. trying to find the latest reply. Sincerely, Joyce
Guest guest
Just so that perhaps you can understand this thread a bit easier, I am copying and pasting one of the digest that came that will show you how much excess scrolling there is to do on a digest when no editing is taking place. Keep in mind that this list has over 2,000 members and I am sure there are several who agree with me, but they are silent members. I know that some of you might be thinking the simplest solution is to just delete the email, but by doing that, I could be loosing some very important information and some of it might be from you.
