Toxic Mold Closes NJ Elementary School

by KYW's

A toxic mold problem at Roebling Elementary School in Florence Township, NJ

has forced officials to close the building for the remainder of the school

year. The 470 students who attend Roebling will finish the year at a nearby

high school.

The decision to close the school in the Burlington County district was made

Friday, and a letter was sent home to parents that day.

On Tuesday night the school district announced that it has brought in a

branch of OSHA and an environmental scientist who's specialty is potentially

harmful molds.

Workers found black mold under paint in a classroom, the second time that's

happened in the past five weeks. The mold spot, about the size of a quarter,

was found last week. Officials say the mold, known as Stachybotrys atra,

affects different people in different ways.
