Guest guest
I've used another brand before (ZAND), for cleaning my mother's dentures, and used it 3 or 4 times on the same dentures, no problem. Now I've got the 21 days program, I switched to the Dr brand one, understanding it's sure cleaner and purer. I put the dentures in hot water (not boiling yet) as usual for hardening the acrylic, left them there until cold I went ahead with the oregano oil cleaning. I left the dentures with the oregano oil resting for a couple of minutes and went for the brushing. When I grabbed them they STUCK TO MY HANDS. Whatever came out from them was DENSE PLASTIC style. I don't think it was coagulated oil. There should be nothing on the dentures to the oregano oil to react with! I removed all the sticky gum and cleaned the dentures with non-abrasive homeopathy-safe lemon toothpaste, rinsed them for a while in cold water, as I was used to… The dentures are now MATTE. The buffing is GONE. I asked my dentist if they can re-apply the lacker coating or whatever made them shinny, and they said there's no such coating. The buffing on the Acrylic itself is what makes it shine. Now, the oregano oil can be tasted 2 days away the brushing. It wasn't like that before, of course, the dentures weren't porous! So… if there's no clear layer on the dentures, what did come out from the dentures? Which of the dentures materials left to let the pores there? How do I re-apply the material that was in the pores? I hope I can find an answer soon. The dentures can get stained and get more bacteria FASTER now. Thanks.
Guest guest
The place to begin with this is the Dentist. Ask where the dentures came from [it will be a Lab, probably local to you] and approach them [preferably in writing] and ask what the source of the material was, from which the dentures were made [Manufacturer] is, in other words, who did the (lab) get the materials from. Contact that source and ask about the materials they used [maybe even seeking a batch number -- this could be a dramatic tip off that someone is onto something that could lead to a massive law suit-- which is by no means a suggestion here, but if there WAS a known glitch somewhere along the line that has been covered up you might be offered new dentures] and also inquire what the chemical composition of that denture material is and what the finished product might be chemically sensitive to and what should be avoided in cleaning the dentures. One thing that you may be overlooking is whether there was a batch error in the manufacturing process that resulted in a final product that was different from what was anticipated. The other side of that coin is to contact the Oregano oil supplier and make exactly the same inquiries. Another possibility that you don't know is whether the previously trusted [by Dr. at least] source has for any of a number of reasons changed its processes, sources etc. The entire matter of essential oils is very complicated and these oils have varying constituents depending on how they are processed. The concentrations of the elements of the oils vary dramatically [from 100% pure, on down to varying levels of dilution] and it has been my observation that few people really understand this and the industry seems to want to shroud the processes in secrecy. Oregano oil is one of the more caustic in its pure form and can even be dangerous to use, as one supplier advises: " WARNING!! Oil of Oregano is one of the strongest essential oils ... never apply to mucous membranes, eyes, genitals, anus, arm pits, mouth, inside nose, and be careful using full strength on the skin. "  By way of example [only] the chemical HEXANE is routinely used in some [not all] oil extracting processes; it is a SOLVENT and extremely dangerous to the human body. The point is that we don't know without detailed investigation, what could have affected the dentures in question.  You just might end up with a new set of dentures if you're thorough about this.   The other somewhat frightening overview is what might be leaching from those dentures that could be toxic to the body?
