Guest guest
Hi Gracia Do you think that adding the Thytrophin has helped you? Did it effect the amount of Armour you needed to take? I take Synthroid so I'm not sure if or how it would be effected if I added some Glandular to my regimen. I know of the Standard Process and have taken some of their other products. Guest guest
I've seen some of the supplements that contain bovine thyroid, which is what Standard Process Thytrophin contains. But it says that it has been processed to remove the thyroxine (T4). Does that mean that it still contains all the other " T's " - T1, T2, T3, T7, etc? And, Gracia, can you be more specific on how it helped you? Did it alleviate some of your symptoms that just the Armour didn't? If so, which ones? By the way, I saw yet another idiotic doctor at the VA. She herself was on Synthroid after having her thyroid removed because of a tumor. She was a pencil thin Asian woman who said that she herself doesn't want to take too much Synthroid because it causes osteoporosis. She said that her own doctor tells her that her dose isn't high enough. So, she said that she would leave me at 0.15 mg for another couple of weeks, but after that she's inclined to lower it because, according to her, it has all to do with the blood tests and nothing to do with how I feel. Then when I asked if she would check my T3, she said that she would this time, but no other time because there's no reason for it since T4 is the active hormone. Huh? Since when is T4 the active hormone? <sigh>

The number indicates how many iodine atoms are attached to the thyroxine. My understanding is that not quite all is removed, just enough so that someone with a functional thyroid gland could eat a bucketful and not become hyperthyroid. It might still contain some of the enzyme that converts T4 to T3. That could be helpful. > By the way, I saw yet another idiotic doctor at the VA. ...Then when I asked if she > would check my T3, she said that she would this time, but no other time > because there's no reason for it since T4 is the active hormone. Huh? The one you really need is Free T3. However, they usually do an entire panel to derive it. Chuck
Guest guest
Jan, Would you mind telling us which thyroid glandulars you were using ? Please give specific brand/product names. How much of the Lugols iodine have you been using each day ? You claim that thyroid glandulars " actually suppress your thyroid gland even more " . What is your basis for making this claim ? Is your basis personal experience, or is it some clinical research/study ? If a study, please provide a source/ link. Thanks. Bob Rowe > 6. Guest guest
Bob, I was using Thytrophin from Standard Process. I thought it was working well until I read one of Dr. Shealy's articles. Some of them are available at this link. http://www.selfhealthsystems.com/archive.php I started with one Iodoral tab and gradually reduced the Thytrophin. I was taking 3 tabs a day, then switched to Lugol's. It used to be available in a 5% solution but now is only available as 2% if you want to buy it in larger quantities. I'm using 6 drops of 2% daily. One of the things he mentioned was that Calcitonin is produced by the thyroid gland and it is a powerful pain reliever besides reducing osteoporosis. I had been having quite a bit of pain in my hips when walking and this completely when away after I had been on the iodine for awhile. I believe it was Dr. Shealy that made the statement that glandulars suppress the thyroid but I don't have the original article I read so I can't swear to it! You should be able to send him an e-mail and ask him. Hope that helps! I have in fact written a couple of responses (not to this one) and figure I am not seeing where they are even posting.
