Parents to tour Gateway school closed by mold

Wednesday, August 14, 2002

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Moss Side Elementary School in Monroeville, which was closed in February

when officials found mold had formed as a result of a leaking roof, will

hold an open house at 7 p.m. tomorrow.

The school, part of the Gateway School District, has had a new roof

installed, and the building has been cleaned to kill the mold. The district

has been working with parents to make sure appropriate tests are done at the

school to assure it is safe for the start of classes Aug. 27, said parent

Madeline Havrilla.

More than 300 students were transferred to Moss Side Middle School and

University Park Elementary for the rest of the school year.

Moss Side Elementary is part of the Gateway High School complex along Route

48.
