Guest guest
mkmissy, I would find out about the lase and get the heck out of there anyways. I am so sensitive to mold now I wear a 3m mask, live on inhalers for asthma that I have never had before in my life. Mine was from work but exposure to bad molds is the same. The black mold could be stachybotrus. I am just so sick I warn anyone. Best of luck to you, Janet

Guest guest
Krissy and Janet, Stachybotrys mold never grows on tile, only constantly wet cellulose (as in paper). It is definitely not worth breaking a lease for tub mildew. I think your life will be a lot simpler if you clean the mildew rather than move; maintenance of the tile surface is your responsibility anyway. In any case, exposures to spores from tile mildew is very minimal. If you have moldy carpeting that you walk on, that is another issue. Remember, the cause for all mold growth is moisture, either from leaks or moisture in the air. If there are building leaks, that is the landlord's responsibility. If the relative humidity is too high, that is usually your responsibility. Guest guest
Hi Kris and all, I didn't know that you joined the group. I have been researching tonight and just found this group too. I'm Donna and I believe we live in an apartment complex that has sick building syndrome in most if not all of the buildings here. I called the health dept because I noticed a couple of weeks ago that my bathroom wall that has had water damage looked fairly white but when I got down on my hands and knees it smelled really bad. So I put in a maintenance request in writing on 9/11 ans still noone has come to fix the issue. Health dept. came yesterday and they are giving them 10 days to fix the problem:0((( It should be 5 after what i found to show them. I tore off the patch job that they did (which was damp to the touch) and on the fiberglass paper I found solid black mold. I also have moldy mildew smell reeking from under my kitchen sink, another small leak in the bathroom sink that i found on Sunday. I have a 4 year old son and a 21 year old son (asthmatic). We have been having alot of the symptoms on and off for the 4 years we've lived here. The apt is not doing timely maintenance and when they come out they are not fixing things properly. I need to get out of my lease now. I am very scared. I am already on disability also. We have so many maintenance horror stories from neighbors in a few other buildings right now plus our kids are sick. Me and Kris are are in our houses 24/7 which from my understanding is making it worse on us too. I feel so bad I did not realize this until now. My poor babies are suffering and me too. Is there anyone on the list that is in Az that can help us? I am going to the tenants rights assc tomorrow. I want to find a lawyer to help us sue this complex for negligence. Plus we know the plumbing is bad. I've encouraged everyone to call the health dept but we need some help ASAP. I don't want to risk my children for one more day and I am on fixed income taking care of us all and we don't have anywhere else to go.
