Guest guest
Ken, that is very good. I got very sick working for the government. I know most are homes and insurance agencies. With Federal it is the Federal institution and agency and US Dept. of Labor. And we have to prove burden of proof. I have been fighting this quite awhile while they move me to different rooms and I have gotten worse. I go Tues. to see a specialist at Mass General. Has anyone heard of a Dr. Aiden Long? That is whom I see and I am nervous. Small town girl, sick outside, and hate to travel far and be sick. But doc here has basucally given up so at least he is sending me somew where else.....Ken..........good job!!!!!! Janet
Guest guest
Janet, I have been fighting my battle with work (a hospital) for over three years. Had two Doctors tell me to leave but were hesitant to say it was from work. They did not assist with L & I claim. They just knew that work was making me sick--Sinus surgery three years ago, chronic sinusitis, asthma,GERD,mitral valve prolapse, etc. This past winter I was able to get them to test a flooded locker room but it took 5 months of my badgering them to get results which showed extensive molds present. I live in the Seattle area and found an occupational medical specialist in Seattle who deals with this problem daily. Thank goodness he believed in me. Helped that I brought the industrial hygiene report, my allergy testing showing highly reactive to all of the molds listed on the hospital's report, and various doctors reports. I just had another surgical procedure on my sinuses--a revision of the maxillary sinus--one week ago. A heavy growth of Staph aureus was found with 70% of the cavity filled with " gunk " as the surgeon called it. He also said there was significant calcium deposits on the sinus indicative of fungal infection. He is now awaiting pathology reports. A coworker and I had gone to see this Doctor for constant hoarseness at work. She had had sinus surgery four years ago. She had her laryngoscopy two days ago. The surgeon found large patches of " mozzarella cheese " clumps on her throat. He told her he had never seen such a thing before. We are both disgusted as are others who have been very sick with respiratory diseases. When I contacted the state L & I they were upset that a claim had not been filed for me three years ago. In Washington State the Board of Health deals with mold in schools but will not touch a workplace area, even if it is a hospital.OSHA is represented by the state L & I here. I used to live in Rollinsford,NH and worked for years at Wentworth-s Hospital in Dover in the ER and the OR.Goodluck to you. Eileen

Guest guest
Janet, on the report that Dr. Long wrote he even had the wrong date of our visit. His assistant had a date 3 months later. They are terrible. We asked them to tell us what was making us sick and help us get better. They said they would not help us because they would not help fight our town and state government that were responsible for our Toxic Mold. We even gave them lab reports and the report from Assured Indoor Air Quality about the effects of the toxic mold in our home. They ignored everyting! I asked how much they got from insurance companies for mold " research " . No answer given. It took about 3 months for the Doctor to finally correct his reports. I would trust an Animanl doctor more. Don't look for any solutions to your illness from MGH. Ken > Eileen, > My goodness, I hope they do all those tests for me in Boston Tuesday. It > is hard fighting them all the time isnt it? Guest guest
Good luck in Boston at MGH. I am seeking a new job and will continue the fight from outside of the unhealthy environment. I am angry that I have to do this as it will mean starting over in a new place and an hour commute by ferry to Seattle instead of 20 minutes to my current job. I am 54 and had just gotten vested in the pension plan at work. I cannot and will not continue to work in a place that does not value it's employees. Ironically, I now live directly across the water from the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and the Bremerton ferry dock which commutes to Seattle. Guest guest
Dear Eileen: That is by far the smartest decision that you will probably in your lifetime. I stayed too long in a Federal building in Washington DC and I now on disability. I allowed the Federal Government and a private owner of the building deprive me of my career and ability to work. God Bless you and never go back to that sick building. Guest guest
Thank you for your comments Larry. Unfortunately I do have to work there for a few more weeks until I find something viable, Odd is it not that there is a national shortage of RN's, especially OR nurses and this place cannot keep them healthy. In the past three years I have seen 5 take early retirement, one die from lung cancer (sudden onset and quick death) and the rest of us sick with either chronic sinusitis & asthma, frequent bouts of pneumonia, and three with Hep. C who now work in non clinical areas of the OR. Unfortunately there are not enough non clinical spots for us all to fill. Quite a few of these people will not believe there is a problem because upper management tells them so. I was told this past summer that my conduct was unbecoming a manager for asking questions and trying to resolve this issue. Hard to believe that they would not fix the problem and keep a healthy staff. Eileen
