Guest guest
Dear Dr. Kolb, It would be greatly appreciated if you could answer this question for me, please bear with my explanation of the symptoms ) I had my implants removed just a week ago and was wondering if it's common for women to feel breast tissue pain? This may seem like a strange question but I don't have ANY pain in the tissue itself on the left hand side but the right hand side is extremely sore when I touch it between the nipple and crease incision, but when I'm not touching it I don't really feel it. I have all the normal pains that I have heard the other ladies describe, such as tiny shooting pains, muscle aches and incision soreness as well, along with swelling on the sides underneath the armpits. These I am not worried about at all. But the strange pain IN the tissue I do worry about, is it normal do you think? It is so far, a pain I can manage however, without medication. Thankyou. Kind Regards, Keli.
Guest guest
Dear Dr. Kolb By saying capsular culture, do you mean the fluid that was tested from between the implant and capsule? Or was my surgeon supposed to test the capsule itself? The fluid that was taken was tested and fine apparently. Thanks so much, Keli. > Dear Keli: What were the results of your capsular culture? . > > -----Original Message----- > From: kelijaye [mailto:keli72@b...] > Sent: Tuesday, June 04, 2002 11:10 PM > @y... > Subject: To Dr. Kolb - question please. > > > Dear Dr. Kolb, > > It would be greatly appreciated if you could answer this question for > me, please bear with my explanation of the symptoms ) > > I had my implants removed just a week ago and was wondering if it's > common for women to feel breast tissue pain? Guest guest
Hi Keli, This information does not sound right to me, and I am not a medical professional. The 'capsule' is the scar tissue which naturally forms around the implant to hold it in place in your body --- the 'capsule' walls off this foreign object from a foreign element being placed into your body by building up this scar tissue, which becomes a seperate organ itself. So, your question about any 'fluid' in between ? does not make any sense to me. Hopefully, Dr. Kolb will be able to explain this better. There's no way any 'fluid' involved with the capsule would test OK! It has to contain a certain amount of silicone sloughed off by the implant shell, plus a certain amount of 'gross bacterial debris from any saline implants --- or more silicone debris from silicone implants. Do you have, in your posession, a copy of the pathology report given to you after your explantation? If so, I would like to know exactly what it states --- to be able to give a clearer explanation of what it says. Rather concerned, Martha M. Guest guest
Dr. Kolb - When I saw my surgeon on Monday and enquired about the fluid she said the results were back and there was no bacteria found in it. I left it at that, maybe I should have questioned her further about the process of testing? I'm not up on medical terms and tests, unfortunately. I had never heard of anyone else having these questions in there list for would be explant surgeons, so I never really thought it an issue. Guest guest
Hi Martha Geez....now I'm totally confused. My surgeon told me the day after surgery that I had about 10mls of fluid in between the implant and the capsule itself and that she had sent it off for testing for bacteria, which none was found - apparently. I had smooth, saline, implants for 11 months. When I questioned her about the fluid, she said that it was probably my body's reaction to a foreign object and that my capsule was VERY thin. I had quite open pockets, possibly this is why they moved around alot and were able to accomodate the fluid? I am not symptomatic, so I did not insist on having my implants tested. I actually have them in my possession (in an airtight sealed container). I don't have any pathology reports.....I guess I should ask for one. Guest guest
In my experience over 90% of my patient's capsular cultures are positive for bacteria. . -----Original Message----- From: kelijaye [mailto:keli72@...] Sent: Wednesday, June 05, 2002 7:21 AM Subject: Re: To Dr. Kolb - question please.
