I would like to know the purpose of these very general questions, and where

you are going with this matter? My grandchildren are very affected, yet,

Arden & I do not freely give out any details until we know what the purpose

of the information is being used for, and who is doing what with it! We are

very protective of their privacy, etc.

Rogene, I have saline implants that I will soon have removed. I had them when I was pregnant with my son. He is 24 months now. He has always had hard to treat fungal problems. Jock Itch constantly as a baby(realy a yeast infection) , once had ringworm (also a fungus) and athletes foot constantly now to this day. His athletes foot is now being treated with his fifth prescription of a different med, because all the other stuff had not helped! Even after months of treatment. Neither my husband or me have athletes foot or yeast problems. I know in my heart, that these 8 year old permiating bags of saline are filled with staph, and fungus, and it has effected my son. The doctors are baffled as to why this strain is so hard for him to fight. He has had tests run, and his immune system is fine. I know its because it's not a normal fungus, but a fungus that has been breeding in warm 98 degree bags of saline for over 8 years. Not even the doctors can't tell me that its a little strange that it has been found saline implants are filled with organisms, fungus, and staph, and my son has always had a problem with fungus! Thank God, I didn't listen to them, I only breast fed for 3 days. After many complications, I just stopped. I wonder now, would if I had breast fed? Would he have gotten even more of it of this terrible stuff?

There is a group that was formed by PJ Brent and Jama Russano, called C.A.T.S. or Children Affected by Toxic Silicone. PJ Brent's story is in our archives, as she testified before the FDA of what her saline implants had done to two of her six children, the two born after she got implants. Tragically, PJ committed suicide over this issue in May of 2000.

There are not any websites that I am aware of, although you will find links to pages that discuss this sad affair. Here is one article that appeared in England. I will continue to look for the other links for you.

The award does not cover proceedings, only the cost of obtaining an expert's opinion. Then a decision will be made about further funding. Director of Silicone Support Group UK, Margot Cameron, believes that la is an example of a baby who received transplacental transfer of silicone as well as silicone in her mother's milk. Cameron claims to have records of 75 children in 50 families who are similarly affected. Immunologist, Smally, and pathologist, Radford Shanklin, (University of Tennessee, TN, USA) believe that the court case has a strong chance of success. They maintain that studies involving more than 10000 individuals show that implants sensitise the immune system to silicone. They also point to animal studies that indicate the transplacental movement of silicone. "The people who says there is no evidence that this occurs are sticking their heads in the sand", says Shanklin. But president of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, T Sharp, is extremely dubious about the standard of the evidence that purports to show transplacental passage of silicone or silicone products as well as the suggested link between silicone implants and connective tissue disease. He also points out that there is more silicone in proprietary milk products than in breast milk and that silicone is a major constituent of anticolic products as well as items such as bottle teats. Jama Russano, director of the US interest group Children Affected by Toxic Substances, is concerned about the lack of information available to women before they have an implant. She claims that the manufacturers have ignored the issue of the safety of implants in pregnant and breastfeeding women. As a consequence, she believes that their lack of basic research gives the Bowler case a strong chance of success. On the other hand, Baum, professor of surgery at University College London, UK, thinks that the case is an atrocious waste of UK taxpayer's money. "The court room is not the right place to resolve a scientific argument and emotional cases do not serve the public or science."

We came in good faith to explain to the medical panel our concerns regarding the effects of implants on the second generation. To us this was the moral and ethical thing to do in light of the fact that my double-lumen implants were found to be leaking chemicals and were contaminated with micro-organisms and fungi upon explantation. Dr. Pierre Blais reported these findings in 1992 and if you will contact him, he will explain the seriousness of his findings. The condition that this "medical device" was found to be in was devastating to me. I had lovingly and confidently breast-fed my two daughters while implanted with this defective product. I was assured that it was safe to have a baby and breast feed. I want to know how anyone could justify exposing an infant to so many toxins if the safety studies were never conducted?I have since been told that my trip to Washington was an utter waste of time because the Panel was instructed to IGNORE me and my family. This is not the first time that I have requested that you answer me as to why the panel was instructed not to listen to my very legitimate concerns.Dr. Witten has sent me a letter "thanking" me after I sent a packet of information to you. Dr. Henney, I do not want to be thanked. I want you to help me and all the other families that have sick children. What has happened to my family and countless other families cannot continue to happen. I'm not looking for any details.

I want women to know that their children are not

alone, that there are support groups (see posts in

response to my message). Also, women should know that

one person they should tell about their children's

problems (in general, not specifics) is Leonard.

Her email address is: NML@.... She has been

receiving some messages regarding this issue . . . she

needs more!

Only if those affected speak up loud and clear about

what has happened to their children will anything

change. Still, nothing may happen, but if no one says

anything, we can be sure nothing will change.

IMHO, the worst crime of the implant fiasco is what

has been done to the children. They had no choice!
