Guest guest
Yes you do want to take antibiotics when you have surgery, I got mine filled the night before explant, I believe it was Keflex. ----- Original Message ----- From: " kelijaye " <keli72@...> < > Sent: Thursday, May 16, 2002 6:33 PM Subject: Post explant anti-biotics > Should anti-biotics be prescribed for after implant removal? > > Thanks, > Keli. > > > >
Guest guest
I think it is a good idea to be safe and take them if your Dr tells you to, you just never know and you don't want an infection, but that is just my opinion. ----- Original Message ----- From: e Rene Sent: Thursday, May 16, 2002 11:13 PM Subject: Re: Post explant anti-biotics Keli, When I had my implants removed, Dr. Huang gave me a rx for Keflex. She said this was routine, but I cannot take Keflex due to it causing severe GI upset. She did not want to rx any other antibiotic, though, and said I would be fine without antibiotics. And I was. I don't know that it is prudent to rx antibiotics after surgery unless there is clear contamination during surgery and/or there is such a mess in your chest. Prescribing them prophylactically brings up that whole issue of misuse of antibiotics and developing antibiotic resistance. e ----- Original Message ----- From: kelijaye Sent: Thursday, May 16, 2002 5:34 PM Subject: Post explant anti-biotics Should anti-biotics be prescribed for after implant removal? Thanks,Keli. Guest guest
If antibiotics are given after surgery it is very important to also treat with an antifungal systemic agent. I usually do not give anything but one dose of IV antibiotic prior to surgery unless the capsular cultures are positive. If antibiotics are routinely given many patients have flares of Candidiasis which make the post operative recovery very difficult. My patients usually report increased energy after surgery if this protocol is followed.
