Guest guest
You know, I wanted implants so badly that I was absolutely thrilled with my implants, too. ( I think many of us were in that frame of mind.) Even though in reality, my implants looked stupid! They were hard, big and the excess breast tissue had no perkiness, resulting in a flat looking nipple area. I didn't like that aspect of my implanted breasts, but hey, I finally had big boobs and felt like a complete woman, so that "flaw" didn't seem to matter. I was sure these minor problems could be fixed by the PS. These women are probably somewhere in that same boat. Now that I have been inducted into the Failed Implant Experience Hall of Fame, the attitude that "those flaws didnt' matter" seems so absurd. They cost me my health and several precious years of my children's young lives. How is it that the complications get so glossed over, when the risks are so high? And where is the concern for the babies that these women might bear, and what those children might have to live with? It is totally mind boggling. I wish this whole implant thing didn't seem like a dream come true for so many girls. It is that anticipation of their soon-to-be-perfect figure that keeps them desperate for implants, that boosting of their ego, the attention and approval they will receive from others, and the assurance from the plastic surgeons that the surgery is completely safe. The lure of these things for women who really want them drowns out all reason. I understand how devastating it can be for women to live with a bodily flaw that she totally despises, and then realize that they can get rid of it and overcome it! I was at that place once. But there's' that saying, "If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is....." It seems to apply to implants, but that whole aspect gets lost in the thrill and the anticipation of a changed breast size. I was recently astounded to find out that someone close to me got implants anyway, even after I had warned her of all the dangers, gave her all kinds of information that I did not have the opportunity to have, and she told me I "saved her life", that she would never risk her health to get implants, blah, blah, blah. She did anyway. It makes one realize how deep seated these feelings about our breasts are, and that no matter what we say or do, girls, women, teens are going to get them anyway. I just wish there was a way to make enlarging breasts safe. We compromise so easily...and you are right, Jeena, with no remedy. Guest guest
I know what you mean. I too was so happy when I had mine done in 97. I was 21 and was so happy to have large breasts as I was always very small. I think since I have matured a lot, I see my breasts as too large for my body type. It is awful trying to find stuff that fits properly. They just got larger went from a large C to a DD after having 2 children. A lot of the young women getting these things do not think about things like this at the time. I know I did not, all I cared about was looking great. You do not think about nursing a child at that age, you don't think anything bad will happen to you. The ps tells you that any complications are so minimal. When you sign on the release form you question all the side effects, but the doctor assures you that none of that has been proven. Yet you sign the form thinking that everything will be great just put them in. No I did not think Saline was harmful. I did not realize that saline has a shelf life and must be stored at room temperature even though I used saline solution for my lenses. Bacteria, fungus? No it must have been done by an unqualified doctor using less than sterile conditions. Most young women do not think about this, I know I didn't. And you are right the media sure downplays any problems with saline calling anyone who does have a problem a crazy, hypochondriac. I am not extremely ill, at least I don't think I am, but I do suffer from abnormal fatigue and excessive hair loss on and off. I sleep 8 hours and wake up feeling tired. My wrists get achy when I push my kids in the stroller, when I am typing at the computer my hands get achy often. I am not 100% sure if it is the implants causing this as I have not have medical testing done since I am moving soon and have to find a new doctor. However I made up my mind that even if it is not the implants I want them out of my body. I don't want to risk my health and I just had it. 15 years from now I don't want to come down with something that nobody will know what it is or tell me that I am making it up. There is always a risk in the choices that we make in life and sometimes we win sometimes we lose. My health however is not something that I wish to lose. I just hope that more women would see this because I know I didn't. Ari > You know, I wanted implants so badly that I was absolutely thrilled with my implants, too. Guest guest
Can anyone find anybody on the pro implant sites that admits being part of the study. I'm curious about how checkups are performed, if they are indeed (apparently a mailed questionaire is considered acceptable for upcoming checksups). If the doctor is not giving the woman a physical, doing some neurological tests, and some blood tests, how can they say there are NO other complications? However, after saying that, there was a mention in the transcript saying that the information on mixed connective tissue disease would not be considered at the hearing. . . . I wonder what they are withholding? It sends a redflag up whenever I visit 's group .. .. then they mess with my computer. I wish I knew how??? . .. Could some of you ladies see if you can get information on women participating in the studies? Hugs to all, Rogene __________________________________________________
Guest guest
I couldn't agree with all of you more about how implants changed my life. I was so excited at first with my implants then they got hard and painful. I will be explanted in the next two weeks sometime or sooner I am just waiting for a free day but it is definately within the next two weeks. I can't wait to have my little chest back. My upper chest measurement is 32 1/2 my under chest measurement is 29 " and my boobs measure 38 " So you know this is going to be so cool to be able to blend into the rest of my body and get to wear little t- shirts again and not have all that bounce and drag on my shoulders and back. I just can't wait... I am so excited I don't care how droppy I look. I want this implant story of my life to be over with. I wish women would not put them in their bodies but I do understand why they do it because I spent the last 20 years with fake boobies so I am a pro and have paid for it with my health. Well soon to be explanted and implant free... YIPPEE.. Mari
Guest guest
Ya know I may pass this on to Nikkis forum she may know but I do not, interesting point! ----- Original Message ----- From: " Rogene S " <saxony01@...> < > Sent: Wednesday, July 31, 2002 9:45 PM Subject: Re: It IS astounding... > Can anyone find anybody on the pro implant sites that > admits being part of the study. > > I'm curious about how checkups are performed, if they > are indeed (apparently a mailed questionaire is > considered acceptable for upcoming checksups). > > If the doctor is not giving the woman a physical, > doing some neurological tests, and some blood tests, > how can they say there are NO other complications? > > However, after saying that, there was a mention in the > transcript saying that the information on mixed > connective tissue disease would not be considered at > the hearing. . . .
