Hi . I took Diflucan for 2 months then was off it for a few weeks then back on it for about 3 months then off it for a few weeks then back on for 3 more months. Total of 8 months. I think because of the implants I had I large systemic build up but it's finally gone now.

Subject: Question about Diflucan

I want to know if anyone here knows about the effectiveness of diflucan for systemic yeast? Does one need to take it for a long period of time? It is my understanding that for a vaginal yeast infection only 1 or 2 doses are prescribed and I am wondering if this would be an effective amount for systemic yeast or if a longer period of treatment would be necesary?

Thanks

I don't know of any Dr willing to give out that long term of a script for diflucan, the ones I have spoken to will only give the 2-3 dose treatment and no one really believes in this problem, what can someone do who would like to do this therapy? Also it is very expensive and most insurance won't pay, why is that?

Thanks

It is possible to order diflucan from England without a prescription if you are unable to get an MD to write for it. It's pretty expensive though. you can buy it on www.smart-drugs.com. You can get seven 50 mg tabs for $40.

50mg Diflucan in England is about $5.71/dose

If you don't have insurance, Diflucan is very expensive even in the US.

At Eckerd 50 mg tabs are sold for $140 for 30 or about $4.67/dose.

I think everyone is different, and the severity of the yeast infection can

be different, however I have only had to use one at a time. Now if the

doctor is prescribing long term anti biotics, then I usually get a couple

refills on it just in case. My docs have never minded doing that because of

what its use is for. I would try just the one and if you find you need

another, call him and tell him you need another. He should understand that

I would think. Best of luck

Carla...

Every time I am Rx'd any antibiotic, my doc automatically Rx's one

Diflucan to take later since I always develop a secondary yeast

infection..One always stops it for me but I take it at the first sign

of an overgrowth of yeast.

The itching drives me insane!

Good luck!

I just wanted to give you a heads up, regarding the yeast infection, I was sure

that was what I had, however it was the PA causing the terrible itch and not a

yeast infection at all. I still have it all the time and it is no fun, if I get

nervouse or anything, I get very itchy, you might want to try benedryl

(antihistamine). It stops the itch for a while. And of course find out for

sure from the obgyn.

[ ] question about Diflucan

Hi everybody,

I just want to say a big thanks to everyone that wrote in response to my

questions about the yeast infection situation a week ago. Everyone has all

given me such good tips, and the things I have tried seem to be helping.

Now, for the question of this post. My Rheumatologist did go ahead an

prescribe the medicine called Diflucan for the yeast infection. He said he

normally wouldn't do it, but understood the situation and that I was in the

middle of a doctors change. Well, he only prescribed one pill at 200mg and

to just take once. I am wondering if this is enough to fight it? I mean

one pill just to take once? 200mg? When I went to the gp that I am trying

to change from, she gave me a 7 to 10 day supply of it at 200mg tabs once a

day. Do you think just the one dose of Diflucan will work? I'm a little

concerned here? Just wondering what your thoughts are on this. It's just a

bit strange to me, but I don't know maybe it will be enough. What do you

think?

Thanks a bunch!
