What were your symptoms before you had them removed? Did you have signs of infection? ----- Original Message ----- From: indysurvivor@... Sent: Saturday, August 17, 2002 3:38 PM Subject: Re: Fw: Please post ... another woman needs support My first thought was for you to GET ALL OF YOUR MEDICAL RECORDS. There are both medical and legal reasons why you need to do this immediately. I have heard of too many cases where things can no longer be documented and it detrimentally affects the persons medical care (docs need to kow what type implnat, etc) and yes, their prospects of a legal suit if they ever decide to pursue that down the road. I am sorry, but I cannot recommend anyone is your area, but I will say this and I have said this many times before. Travel, travel, travel if necessary. Very few docs can remove them properly, but I only know of one who has an aftercare program and that is what you must have. It is not enough to remove saline implants. Almost all of them are infected upon removal. Dr. Kolb has a website. Her facility is called "Plastikos"- its in Atlanta Georgia. Look, I realize that is not what you were hoping to hear. But, I had to have the explantation surgery done twice!!!! because the first doctor, who supposedly is renown in Ohio, left capsules in me. Additionally, that doctor had absolutely NO aftercare program at all, and in fact basically said I would have to go to a rhumatologist in New York!! I live in INDY, and my problem was infections (as is almost always the case with saline)- not rhumatological problems. My point is- travel and do whatever it takes to get the best care possible. You have now had two sets of implants, and you are ill. You cannot go to any plastic surgeon anymore. You need the best, and you cannot leave anything to chance. Thinking of the expense is stressful- well think of the expense when you go through it all and then realize it wasn't done properly and it has to be done again. You cannot go to someone who doesn't understand the need for aftercare- virtually all saline implants that are removed contain fungal and bacterial infections, and the time to determine what is making you sick is @ the time of implant. If you go to a doc than is not knowledgeable of this fact, they wont even look for this- they will not do cultutures, they wont advise you to get your implants tested, they may even, as happended in my case, put em in fermaldehyde which in my opinion is a blatant attempt to destroy evidence and it obviousuly makes it more difficult for you to find out what it is that is making you ill- that means they can't tailor the medicine you need. Youll be stuck taking general meds that cover a wide variety, rather than specifically what has infected you. You must ask whomever you chose if they have a plan for you after removal- if they do not, go elsewhere, its just that simple. And, yes, get those records asap! indysurvivor@...PS- I traveled 18 hours total, and stayed in a hotel for a week, just to have Dr. Kolb do the surgery and come up with the appropriate aftercare I needed. It sucked and I came home pretty light in the pockets, but had I gone to her the first time, I would have saved thoudsands and a lot of needless pain and suffering. Go to anyone you want just ask the right questions and trust your instincts!!!! Take care and be smart about the decisions you are about to make!
