Guest guest
I had my cervical xrays done yesterday and got the results today. The result as read by the radiologist is just what I feared----another failed cervical fusion at C5-6 and C6-7. The fusion at C4-5 has taken, however. I am sending my films to my surgeon in Denver for review, as maybe he will interpret/read the films differently. Also, I'm hoping that perhaps since this is my second fusion at C5-7 that healing will just take longer. But I reviewed the films as well, and you can clearly see the open spaces where bone should have filled in. Also, I started having sharp, severe, debilitating hip pain (where my donor site is) last Thurs when I was working for J & J at one of the hospitals here. I initially attributed it to carrying too much weight, so I shifted some of the weight I was carrying, but the pain continued. It was only when I walked, and was fine when I was sitting or standing but not ambulating. So, I had hip/pelvic xrays done to see if perhaps I had suffered a small fracture around the donor site. Luckily, there is no fx, but there is a "bony defect" on one area of the donor site. I had the doc enlarge it on the computer, and it was several "spikes" which he said may have unnaturally attached to the muscle and that is what is causing the pain. But you can't see muscle on plain films, so there's really no way of telling. At any rate, a portion of the donor site has healed in a jagged way. The doc said that it could have just been the way my body healed, or it could be a postsurgical "problem" although it's not a problem per se, just a nuisance. But the rad felt that this was unusual and if this occurs, it's usually right after surgery, not this far out. I did call my neurosurgeon in Denver and left a msg about the reports/films, and his NP called me back and said that I just can't jump to conclusions until he has seen the films and drawn his own conclusions. I am fedexing the films to him for delivery Fri, so I should find out what he thinks Fri evening. I am convinced that the silicone that spilled into my chest cavity and/or possibly my blood is still to blame. I'm not quite sure that this crap is completely out of my system, and hence the poor healing, dental problems, CA, etc. Any input Dr. Kolb? Could this be a possibility? e
