Dr. Kolb enbloc procedure?

Hi Dr. Kolb,

Getting this explant is really a puzzlement to me as the patient.

Could you kindly tell me what the difference is between an " explant with

full capsulectomy " vs. an " enbloc explant " ?

I thought an explant with a full capsulectomy was an enbloc removal.

Now I know this sounds very semantic but I am being told that my ins. will

not cover an enbloc procedure.

Does this make any sense?

What am I missing here?

an enbloc just means that they remove the implant and the capsule in one

unit if possible. A capsulectomy means that they remove the implant and the

capsule. I don't understand how your insurance can say that since they

basically mean the same thing, if they cover capsulectomy they should cover

enbloc. With your implants, being the meme type, I would think that there

would be no way of removing them, if they are ruptured, without removing the

capsule too, although I don't know if they would be able to do it enbloc,

does that make sense?

They are the same thing as far as Medicare is concerned. The code is 19371

and it is covered. .
